Things I Wish I Knew BEFORE Moving to Murrieta (Fresno: to buy, camping)

I've lived in Murrieta for 2 years now. Before moving here, I wish people told me the things below:
Christianity is a ubiquitous influence in the Inland Empire. Everywhere I turn I see "Not of this World" stickers, paraphanelia, etc. Every weekend I have someone knocking on my door trying to "spread the word."
I knew the air quality was bad before moving here, but I never heard anyone mention the brown layer that blankets itself over Temecula Valley 5 months out of the year. Anyone who disagrees with this, please visit the American Lung Association website and see how Riverside County rates.
I also knew that it was hot in the summertime, but I didn't expect it to be windy and hot (100F+), thus creating a furnace-like environment.
This is not a bike friendly town. There are only a few streets that will take you over the freeway into the east/west side of town. These arteries are always busy and drivers aren't conscious of cyclists.
The area is filled with monster trucks ploughing down the roads, spewing their foul smelling diesel fumes.
I've never seen so many people litter and throw entire bags of fast food out of their car windows onto the road.
Examples of bumper stickers I commonly see:
1. "Urban by birth, Redneck by Choice"
2. "Get 'er Done, Got 'er Did"
3. "High Class Trailer Trash Camping Crue"
4. "Jesus wouldn't...TAPOUT!" (mixed martial arts term)

You didn't know this because no one on C-D would dare say that this area is the little Mississippi of the west with air quality worse than anything LA has but without that areas dynamics for fear of being accused of exaggerations and hyperbole.

My nephew and his wife have been living in Temecula for about two years. His wife just called my older sister to say their 7 year old son had a terrible sinus infection with a 104 degree fever. He's been having respiratory troubles ever since they move down there from NorCal.

Aww....generalization from one case. Gotta love city-data some times.

This is more or less the eastern half of CA, welcome.

1) This is the case in many areas of the US, particularly conservative ranch/farm communities, like what Temecula and much of the IE has evolved from in the past 25 years. A little basic research would have told you that.
2) Riverside County is as big as the state of New Jersey. County wide air quality ratings means little compared to local air quality ratings. You may have a point, but air quality will almost always be better in Temecula than in the SB Valley against the San Gabriels, San Bernardinos, and San Jacintos.
3) Those winds also cool the place down at night. Something that the more traditional IE communities do not get.
4) It's a newly suburban area that was formerly rural and still is in parts. It's part and parcel given suburban development in the past twenty years. Boggles my mind that someone would say this unless they lived in a bubble.
5) The 15 is one of the major(if not thee major) north-south arteries for commercial traffic in the US. A little basic research would have told you that.
6) I haven't seen that anywhere but the lowlifes that part in wrecking Elsinore. *shrug*
7) See 1.

To sum it up: the valley in which Temecula is located is directly connected to Corona, which has horrible pollution, not only from incoming LA smog, but also from own sources. Not the stuff you want to mess around with if you value your health. Luckily, I figured that out before I decided to buy anything in Temecula. There's no barrier separating Temecula from Corona (that's where highway 15 goes, down that valley that connects the two) and smog can freely float in. There're some breezes that blow in sometimes, and air dynamics is not always in the favor of incoming smog, but often the smog is allowed to reach Temecula.
Got to love how people on here will try to defend their false, inaccurate believes and try to degrade the actual experience of asthma and respiratory allergies sufferers that fell victims to LA area smog.
To people whose child got sick: you should get out of Temecula for your kid's sake. You don't want to end up with inhaler-using asthma sufferer, and the respiratory problems from SoCal smog lead to many other health problems, from depression to heart problems. I also came to SoCal from North Cal and had been hit by asthmatic bronchitis, asthma and respiratory aliments anywhere in the LA/IE/OC area.
Problem with your argument is the microclimate in Temecula(and Murrieta a bit) includes winds coming off the western mountains, which comes off the ocean. They're west to east winds, not north to south(where the pollution is).

I didn't generalize anything. The thread starter mentioned the poor air quality in that region and I had an anecdote about it. Hell, I lived in Fresno (with its luscious air you can cut with a knife) and felt great. Some little kids don't do so well in smoggy areas. Basically, what the hell are these forums/threads for if you can't post things like that?
