Arizona Bear:

Thanks for writing. We used to go to the coffee house on Beale St. in Kingman, but it closed down awhile back ago. Sad!! We used to sell some of our crafts in the coffee house too.

Thanks for the link to Kingman. Are you thinking of moving to Kingman in the future. We used to go up to Kingman a lot, especially in the summer. But lately, traffic has gotten really bad up there too...especially around their new hospital, Wal-Mart and all of their new shopping centers, etc.

One of our friends has (or had) an antique mall in downtown Kingman. We used to go up to visit her at times. (Not sure if she is still there....or not now.)

The weather is definitely better in the summer in Kingman...and I wouldn't mind a little snow at times in the winter.

Lake Havasu seems too much like Orange County, CA for us. (We used to live in Huntington Beach.) Everything seems so cold, sterile and modern down in Lake Havasu. But, it does seem like more of a "happening place." We go down there to eat once in awhile, and browse thru the stores in their downtown area.

Thanks again for keeping in touch and more soon, me

May I ask when you were in Kingman last? Why I wonder is there was the Fountain on Beale St from 2001-05 (right next to the Kingman Club bar) and supposedly, down Beale St on the other side of Wells Fargo is Beale Street Brews Coffee House that opened up ca. a year ago.

No joke about LHC being reminiscent of 'OC': it comes across as a wanna-be Newport Beach but 'only' makes it to HB status. Sad because 20 years ago I really liked LHC (aside from the beastly summers).

As for my moving back to Mohave County; that is unknown at the present time........unless I can get a job that pays above $13 an hour..........I may be safer sitting tight here in the Phx area till the recession blows over.

Thanks for writing! It's been about 6 months since we've been up to Kingman. A new coffee house opened up right in the downtown area awhile back ago. But, the last time we went up, it was closed. (Sad!) Not sure what's going on in Kingman right now...Need to get back up there sometime soon.

You're right, LHC is more like Huntington Beach...versus Newport Beach! We moved out of Huntington Beach when they decided to tear down old stores in their pier/downtown area. It did seem like they wanted to become like Newport Beach.

Wages are definitely low here in Mohave County, that's for sure. And, the Laughlin casinos are laying off people left and right. My husband just got laid-off from the "Pioneer." Revenues has been down....

Maybe the casinos are worried that we won't have as many snow-birds in the area this year due to unstable gas prices, stock losses, etc. Anyway, thanks for keeping in touch and more soon, me

Odd: I just tried to call Beale St Brews and it went straight to Voice Mail.........but, the message stated they were in business. I strongly doubt that if the business went out several months ago the phone # would still be in service.

EDIT: there was a coffee/tea place (different business) that indeed went away a few months ago back in that same general area from what I was told.

Wow, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to confuse you. I guess I saw the other coffee house and this was the one that went out of business. Maybe I should stop talking about Kingman until I start spending more time up there! Sorry! Claire

Understandable due to one coffeehouse fading out not long ago in Kingman.

For the record: I just called Beale St Brews and they are definitely in business/open 7 days a week---------a live human type person picked up the phone and stated they celebrated their first anniversary this past July.

Needless to say: a drive up there is in the cards-----------soon.

I'm glad that the coffee house you like is still open! YEA!! Hope you have fun when you visit Kingman.

When we first moved to Bullhead City, we had some regrets that we didn't move to Kingman. But thru the years, we took Kingman off the "pedestal." Same goes for all of the other towns around here. I think we just need a "major change." Time to move to another state and area when we can. Thanks, Claire

In defense of Bullhead: it has a better rep for 'clean government' than either Kingman or LHC let alone Warren Jeffs' farce of a town AKA Colorado City.

Arizona Bear....I have doubts about our city government! We tried to contact the mayor and city council in our town many, many times about ongoing problems with our neighbor's "booming" stereos...but no one cares, and we're always ignored. I'm sure that the city would take our concerns more seriously if we were "wealthy developers" or part of Don Laughlin's family, etc. Since we're "nobodies"...we don't matter much to them. SAD!!! Thanks, me

What you are saying is believable; I remember dating a woman 3 years in the BHC area who lived there ca. 1984 as well and she told me it was a much nicer community back then. I am surmising it was smaller and even with low wages------------housing was affordable.
