I talk with my old friends and family who still live in Big Bear daily and so far not one of them has said it has really been "tough". It's definitely work, shoveling etc. but most are enjoying a good winter. Why live up in the mountains if you don't enjoy the snow? The fires on the other hand were tough and not welcomed but again, to have that beauty, glorious summers, stars at night, and fun in the snow---for most living up there it is all part of their lives!!

We are still trying to get to Big Bear, the problem seems to be that as we are dropping our price on our home at an alarming rate things in Big Bear stay the same. NO ONE is dropping their prices. I am afraid our dream of ever getting to Big Bear is quickly becoming a thing of the past and it breaks our heart.

Believe me---the prices in Big Bear are dropping too. Hang in there, you just may be suprised. What the people want/ask is not what many of them are truely getting. Construction is down and houses are sitting...stay positive and don't give up on your dream.

TYVM it seems the houses we are interested in have not dropped a cent and they have been sitting there for quite awhile. We have lowered the price on our home but the market is so bad nothing seems to be selling around us either.

My husband and I are looking into purchasing a small cabin in Big Bear near the airport as a vacation home. I was just wondering if those of you who live there can tell me if there are any additional fees, like bonds, etc. that you find out about at the last minute before you sign on the dotted line.

Go to the website of San Bernardino county Government and check out any property address for the total list of taxes on that parcel of property. Properties listed for sale include many foreclosures. These foreclosures have driven prices down. However; many people have listed their properties for rent until the sale prices go back up. You will find reasonable prices depending on just where you are looking. Lake-front remain in the $1mil range. Keep in mind that this is a resort community and not the same prices as DTH (down the hill or mountain) apply. It is cooler up here in the summer and snow is not really a big problem one or two days where you might get a foot of snow. But the sun always comes out and helps melt the stuff. You need a 4-wheel drive vehicle which makes your life easier in the winter. Water tastes good and fresh air is so nice to breathe without smog.

How much does home insurance run in Crestline/Running Springs, or Wrightwood. Thinking of retiring one of these spots or Prescott Arizona. Fire insurance is my largest concern (and medical care). thanks Don

Our homeowners insurance in the So Cal mountains (Idyllwild) runs about $2000 per year.
