If we start seeing this kind of home appreciation for several quarters then, I'll agree with you. But, let's face it ... a lot of the recent Texas home appreciation is coming from the cash out kids moving from other states. Not because Texas incomes have suddenly increased. Now, people in those other states can't sell their homes as easily and certainly not for the same prices they got before so, we'll have to see if this one quarter appreciation actually becomes a real trend. Because, traditionally, Texas homes just haven't appreciated much. As the previous article stated: the good news is that your Texas house doesn't depreciate much. But, the bad news is that it doesn't appreciate much either. Last edited by sheri257; 10-16-2007 at 08:08 PM.. |

The desert is beautiful. It gets hot in the summer, but cools off at night. No humidity..! In the four years I have lived here, I have never seen a mosquito, and rarely a fly. It's get cold in the winter, even snows once a year. We moved here from beautiful Orange County when we retired and love every inch of it. Every place has the good and the bad. I have yet to see much bad about living here. |

Quote.OHH YEA, BTW Snow... I saw in one of the post I viewed earlier that it shows in Victorville... I've never lived in a area that shows so please advise me of anything that may be new to someone from the San Diego Area. (Car problems because of extreme heat, snow, etc) Hows the drive traffic wise to Barstow from Hesperia, Adelanto and Victorville? Quote
it snows once a year, at most. I melts as soon as it hits the road. It may linger on lawns and roof tops a few days, but there is never a need to worry about shoveling snow. It got down to 17 degrees a few days last winter, but that is rare. Usually 30-40's are the coldest. It is a short, 30 minute freeway drive to Barstow. The road is great. it is also the main road to Las Vegas, so it can get crowded on weekends. That is not crowded by LA or SD standards by any means, unless there is an accident. As far as heat/cold hardships on your car, if you keep your vehicle maintained it won't be a problem. I have a 15 year old truck. Never had a heating problem, never had a starting problem due to cold. This isn't Alaska..! I am in VV and sourrounding towns on a daily basis, and have yet to see any crime. I read about it in the papers, but I don't hang out in the bad areas. Killers don't rome the streets like some posters here would like you to believe. |

As a new resident here up in the high desert, I love it.

Well, lets see...Why are you moving to Barstow? A job. You would be good to go if you have a job. i am Living in Hesperia but lived in Phelan (windy). So far for me its a job issue. Traffic is bad on bear valley at morning and eve. figure out side streets. Side street on west side is good but going down palmdale rd west from 15 then south on whatever road you figure out is best for you would be better than a bear valley exit. So your exiting would be your problem. 15 is basically good. I have been here for 9 months
Looking for a home? I will have one avaliable in 6 to 9 months. maybe less. 5 acres w/home. |

I've lived in Inland Empire for 27 years and I would avoid those areas. I did taxes and payroll for years and the only clients I had in the High Desert area were battered women's shelters. Doesn't bode well for a town.

I used to live in Victorville back in 1976.
Worked at the BunBoy as a cook and partied with the wingers at night. Hung out at local known places like Deep Creek and Deadmans Canyon. Worked in Hesperia at the old Hesperia Cafe and thought how tiny the town was compared to Victorville. Our house was built not too far from the old drive-in (now long gone and covered with more homes). Apple Valley was cool. While mom and dad had a place in Victorville, I decided to get a small trailer at the end of town. The drive to work was easy and life was just plain simple and easy going. Adlanto had the casino and YES, I worked there for a while too. That was about it. I felt that had it not been for GAFB there would be no VV and Adlanto. I ABSOLUTLEY enjoyed living in the high dessert and wish life was as easy as it was back in 1976. |

You must live in, and do business with the really low class. The place is beautiful, and full of the better class you seem to not have encountered. Water seeks it's own level, you seem to found your's, but it's not what's hapening in the high desert. Get a decent job..

In the four years that I've lived here it only snowed once and melted within a day so, I wouldn't worry about snow.
