Can you swim in it? Is it a real place? Or is it folklore?

I don't know about Mentone Beach - never heard of it. But Mentone is a city in San Bernardino County near Highland and Redlands. I like Mentone actually, lots of orange groves.

I know Mentone too. East Redlands. I'm an outsider so I don't know if there's an actual beach or not. Tired of bumming my friends for pool use. I'd like to go swimming and the ocean is too far

The only water around there is Mill Creek. "Mentone Beach" is wherever the crowds congregate during hot weather.

This article says the name started back in 1979 ... but I remember partying out there in the early '70's.

I have another weird Inland Empire beach story... the first time I noticed the Moreno Beach exit off of the 10 freeway I was totally baffled. Moreno Valley is over 80 miles from the beach! So one day when I had some extra time, I got off the freeway and took Moreno Beach Drive south, and what do you know? It ends after about a mile, and if you then take Via Del Lago, you end up on the shores of Lake Perris. I didn't even know that side of the lake was accessible, since I'd only ever approached it from the other side.

So yeah, there sort of is a "beach" in Moreno Valley...

I think you mean the 60 freeway?

You're right - it's off the 60!

I was usually coming from Idyllwild, right before the 10 splits into the 60... But I do know the difference - usually!

I did years ago. If you call floating and keeping cool "swimming".

It all depends on the water level.

I take it it's not very deep this time of year? When's the ideal time if you wish to be submerged in moderately warm water?
