temecula is actually located in riverside county, but it might as well be the OC. boring, over developed, expensive when compared with the rest of SoCal and kind of in the middle of nowhere. I had an opportunity to assume the lease on a business in temecula last year, would have been a good bet, but I just don't like SoCal and temecula did nothing to change my mind. If OC style living is your thing, you might like it. otherwise, it's not that great.

Here's what I would say that's good from the perspective of someone who moved to Austin (lifelong San Diegan). Temecula isn't much in itself, but is close to a lot of interesting places. You can live there and still take 1-2 hour car rides to San Diego, Palm Springs, and Orange County. Southern California is full of galleries and flowers and palm trees and other things that people in the rest of the country would love to have. Many people are leaving California to try to buy cheaper houses. Well, wait a year or two and those cheaper houses will be in Temecula too as the prices spiral down.

So instead of moving out of California altogether, you can live in Temecula during the week and visit the rest of SoCal on the weekends. It's not like living in Pacific Beach, but might be better than moving to another state. There are lots of people like me who moved elsewhere in search of cheaper housing. I like Austin, but it isn't where my heart is. I consider Temecula a safe middle ground between being able to afford something really nice in San Diego or Orange County, and moving to a cheaper state.

I moved to a little town called Midlothian just south of Dallas, and after a year here. I have come to realize my heart is still in cali. I am now looking at Temecula for my new home and regret buying a home in Texas just to have a home. I wished I would have waited for the market in Cali to spiral downward.

I moved from the San Francisco Bay area to Temecula several years ago. While Temecula has everything you need to enjoy life, yes, its hot in the summer, and yes, we have smog, I would move back to Northern California in a heartbeat if only I could afford to. The drivers in SoCal are crazy and I've found the people down here to be more self centered and arrogant. Sorry folks, just my opinion. Temecula area has changed in 5 years..more traffic, more diversity of people moving in and LOTS more stores. This is definitely a FAMILY oriented community, everyone lives for their kids. If you don't have kids, you will feel out of place. If you have kids, you'll feel right at home.

Everyplace has its pros and cons. Sure hope the housing market turns around.

Smile What about senior citizens?

Okay. So, I've read all the posts about how perfect Temecula and Murrieta are for raising a family. How about the old people?

I am about to do something I said I would die before I would do it. I'm considering moving to a Senior Apartment complex in Temecula. Rentals in my area have gone sky high, I believe, in order to capitalize on the failing housing market. I have lived in LA County for 27 years. And 20+ of those years were spent in Culver City and West LA. Now what in the world will I do in Temecula after being exposed to so many choices in activities in West LA? If all Temecula has is restaurants, movie theaters and wine. I WILL die.

One other thing. I haven't heard anything about a Black culture going on in Temecula. Will I have to drive 2 hours to LA every time I want to get involved in Black activities? Will somebody please give me some more information?

I am a retired, 63 year old Black woman with lots of energy. Will I have to come to Temecula and wake everybody up? (smile)

There's a big senior community in Sun City, about 25 miles north of Temecula. Murrieta has quite a few senior neighborhoods also. The area is very friendly to seniors & many people move here to retire.
It definitely will not compare to a city in things to do.
There's not a lot of black people in this area either. It is predominantly white. Different races seem to fit in okay, but everyone is mostly middle class & they all seem the same whatever their race is, haha. A high school in Murrieta reportedly has had racial problems, but that isn't characteristic of the whole area.

---

I grew up in this area and it is generally your cookie cutter suburb. Everything is new & clean & there is little crime. I didn't see one homeless person until a few years ago, that's how squeaky clean it is.

Outside of the wine country and balloon & wine festival, Temecula has little of its own identity and culture. The city is fighting the growth and doesn't want to allow anything outside of chain stores & restaurants to be put in. That's a shame, because the area could be more friendly to younger singles & older teens. Even older people complain about the lack of things to do. There is the Pechanga casino of course, if you're into that sort of thing.

The weather here is nice if you like it on the warm side. It gets over 100 maybe 2 weeks out of the year. We consider that a heat wave & it is NOT the norm. The rest of the time the weather ranges from 60 to 90 degrees in the daytime. Anything outside of that is unusual. At night, it cools down dramatically, sometimes dropping around 30 degrees.

The area is NOT smoggy. The sky is almost always blue & clear. Compared to the LA, San Bernardino, or the rest of Riverside, the air quality is a lot better. There have been newspapers written on this, and part of it has to do with how the area is situated & how the winds blow.
We do get a marine layer sometimes, but that's FOG, not smog. Temecula is only a 30 minute drive from the beach in Oceanside. It used to be a shorter time before traffic got worse.

Traffic here sucks. The roads were designed poorly and everyone commutes either out of the area or they drive into Temecula from nearby towns to work. It's about 1.5 to 2 hours to LA, about 1-1.5 hours to Orange County beach cities, and 1 hour to SD.

Like the rest of CA, people here are into health & are a bit materialistic & status conscious. People are definitely into church & family too. I don't think those are categorically negative things.

I agree it is a nice place to raise a family, or possibly retire. If you are between the ages of 18 and 40 & single, then you'll be bored out of your mind.
