I remember years back we moved to a house in Ontario. And there were black widow spiders everywhere. In the garage, in the attic, around the outside of the house, even found one in our bedroom one time. And they could be aggressive. We tried poking one with a stick and it attacked the stick. And I have cousins who used to live in Riverside who had black widows in there yards. Anyone else have problems with these spiders?

Victorville/Hesperia has tons of black widows everywhere. Any area that is undisturbed will usually have them.

I have them, but I don't see them as a problem. I coexist with them. The only one I've killed is when I exited the side door early one morning and ran my face into one that had built a web outside the door during the night.

Yeah, there are definitely some here. I find them in my garage quite a bit, and I usually end up killing them. If you get some bug spray and spray around the garage, the doors, etc. it will usually keep them at bay.

In the CV area yes, in the span of about 3 years, we came upon 5. It's not a big number, but when you have a toddler running around, they tend to stick out. Up on the mountain now, I've only seen one - and that little bugger was aggressive, I mean like Ray Lewis aggressive.

Attacked the stick, or tried to defend itself from some unknown object trying to smash it? Black widows are found in many places around the country. I had black widows around my house, mainly in a wood pile, when I lived in Sacramento. Neither I nor my cat ever got bit. Are you concerned with a current problem, or just wondering, remembering days past in Ontario? As I recall, the number of people dying from black widow bites is very, very, very small. I've never heard of them being aggressive, unless attacked/bothered, or if they are trying to eat a smaller insect. All in all, they'd rather avoid you than bite you. Your county may have a department dealing with insect pests. Or nearest UC agricultural extension office. Or exterminator (though they may just say hire them).
