Question Travel help for Twentynine Palms/Palm Springs/Desert Hot Springs

Does anyone out there know anything about lodging near the Marine base at Twentynine Palms? I am on a budget and would like to visit my son during the week of Christmas. I've already checked on a flight to Ontario Int'l (because that's cheaper), and now I need to figure out where to stay that's not too far of a drive to the base. I looked online at Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs, but all those 'spa resorts' lists are overwhelming. I want something nice, yet affordable.... any help out there?

When we went to 29 for an overnite stay we stayed at a motel6 in Palm Springs. It was a little noisy but we couldn't find anyplace decent closer to the base.

You won't find anything cheaper than about $98 a night in 29Palms. There is nothing there but the base, Enchada's mexican restaurant, and Joshua Tree NP.

It's tough to find a reasonable motel room in the area. There aren't many good ones, and they know there aren't many more for miles....Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree may be a little cheaper, but the drive is longer.

We go out there a couple times a year to spend time in Joshua Tree NP, and cheap hotels rooms don't exist in 29Palms....ones that you would stay in at any rate.

We like the Best Western...the rooms certainly aren't worth the price...but you don't have many choices.
