You sound alot like me! I'm single as well, with 2 dogs. I have been living in SoCal for a while, and while I have never actually lived in the Ontario area... it does seem kinda sketchy to me (when I had home visits for school- I did not feel all that safe driving around Ontario). I literally go and explore everywhere in SoCal. I am looking to buy a home in Rancho Cucamonga because I feel safe going around that area, like the more surburban feel, and feel that there is sufficient stuff(shopping, eateries), and you are not too far from LA/OC either. It is close to Ontario too. I think it is better to invest in Rancho as opposed to Ontario. The price tag is higher, but I believe that it is a much better area.

Im 24, I got a job in San Bernardino two years ago and I think for a young professional, the only areas to live would be in/around are Claremont or Redlands. I chose Upland, which is adjacent to Claremont. I would avoid most of Ontario (North is OK). I disagree with people saying Rancho is the place to move. Rancho is very boring, I would choose to avoid that area.

Are you planning to buy a house or a townhome? I've heard theres a lot to do in Rancho. I read somewhere on the internet there is a train station that runs through Rancho into L.A. Is this true?

Thanks

Thanks for your input Ion_Exchange. Why do you consider Rancho boring? What's offered in Redlands/Claremeont that isn't offered in Rancho.

Again, thank you for your input!

I am planning on buying a house house, I do not want to share any walls with neighbors and want a yard where I can entertain and let my dogs run around. I do not know anything about the train stations, but a google search might be able to tell you.

I think that there is a good amount in Rancho, by no means are the activities available like LA, but you are not very far from LA. I personally love the area around Victoria Gardens- it's an outdoor mall with lots of shops and places to eat, and I think they do outdoor movies in the summer too(if I remember correctly). When I lived in Loma Linda, my friends and I went there often to eat and hang out, and I've always felt safe. I am personally looking for something in that area. I posted a thread too-about buying a home in Ranco, since I want to really make sure it is a good area to buy- since I'm a girl and will be living alone.

I lived in Loma Linda, for 3 years... and I hated it. It get soooo hot out there in the summer, and both Loma Linda and Redlands look really old to me. It borders Redlands. I've driven all over Redlands and did not like it. There are a few areas I found with nicer homes... but I think that you are just too far from everything. I honestly felt like I was separated from the world! My friends and I always drove elsewhere to get real food-mostly to Rancho, or even LA. If I am correct, I believe the crime rate is much higher in Redlands as it in Rancho. Personally, I did not feel all that safe going around Redlands... and my friends always waited until I entered my home before leaving me by myself. I personally would not live in Redlands... I don't know anything about Claremont though.

Claremont has a younger population as there is a few colleges in Claremont. Rancho has zero nightlife. Victoria gardens bars last call is at 11. Rancho is probably a great place to raise a family but not for a 20 something professional.

Ok. I'll check out Claremont. Is it more expensive than Rancho, cost of living this is?

Again thanks.
