I'm interested in transferring to CSU San Bernardino in the next year or so, but I have very little experience with living in SoCal. I'm a single female in her late 20s with a decent income, and I'd like some specifics on the best neighborhoods for a single woman (apartments & housing), the climate, the diversity (ethnic & income), shopping, public transportation (I'm assuming that like most CA cities, you need a car, right?), etc. I'm pretty low maintenance, and am not obsessed with living the big city life (or nightlife), but I would like to live in a pretty low key, but vibrant community.

Climate: Hot, dry Summer. Hot, very windy, bone-dry Fall. Mild, usually wet Winter/Spring. Polluted air, especially in the Summer.

yes, you'll need a car.

there are areas near CSUSB that you would probably like - you would not want to be anywhere near downtown SB (CSUSB is well outside of town.)

if you don't mind driving 30 minutes or so, I'm sure you'd love Redlands (which is itself a college town)
