I know it's not the nicest neighborhood but is it safe for a brief visit during daytime? Saw something interesting there on Craigslist and I want to pick it up. Thanks!

Oh please. It's not like you're General Custer riding into the camp of the Lakota Sioux. I'm there often, day and night, and have managed to escape with my scalp every time over the years.

If you get hungry for some good Mexican food while in the danger zone, allow me to suggest El Kiosco, 916 South Riverside Ave. They'll come out to your car and escort you inside with armed troops.

EDIT: By the way, Rialto has a very quaint old downtown section with lots of early 20th century architecture.

Always had a soft spot for Rialto. Made my first arrest there about 35 years ago. Is there still a Stater Brothers market in the downtown area or has that group gone belly up like so many others?

Stater Bros is healthy and building new stores. Ralphs is closing underperforming stores. There's a big Stater Bros on Foothill in Rialto.

I had to go to Rialto 1x lately with my friend toloook at a used car for sale that he found on Craigs List. Now, I personally wouldn't look for anything o Craigs List myself, but I made this visit in my car w/ my friend at at the time of day, it was getting dark. We weren't there long...about 20 minutes on this run-down residential street, but let's say I was glad to get outta there.

I worked in downtown Rialto for about 15 years. Never got shot at once.

Every night I'd drive home to north San Bernardino. Never got shot at once.

Wonder if Herman's Restaurant and Johnson's Hardware are still in business ...

LOL. Great thread.

As nearly every 'city' in Socal, some nicer parts, some bad parts. Can't generalize, but overall, you'll be fine. I have a good friend and ex-colleague who lives in Rialto, nice quiet neighborhood. I visit frequently and never felt even slightly unsafe.

I hope this a troll question.

Rialto is safe in the day and night.

Try Detroit, Trenton or Patterson, NJ or Lagos for "dangerous at night."

Sheesh.
