After I graduated from UT, I moved to San Antonio and then to San Diego in May of this year. My industry (biotech) doesn't have a large presence in TX. So far I'm happy with my move although cost of living here is ridiculously high.

I grew-up an hour north of Austin and moved out here in 2000. I own a home in Riverside and work in Hollywood. I like it out here. Austin is about the only city I'd move to if I had to leave Southern California. Out here we have great weather, Ski slopes an hour north, beaches an hour west, lots of nightlife within easy traveling distance, and a nice attitude. i take the train into LA to work so my commute is about an hour and half, but most of that is sitting on a train reading a book or watching a movie on my laptop. You could spend the same amount of time trying to get around the loop in Austin. The houses are a little more expensive out here, but I think you'll enjoy the move.

I'm from So Cal and moved to Austin about a year ago, I would move back to so cal in a heartbeat! My husband is in the military so we don't have a choice. Austin is a little like cali in that it has lots of restaurants and shopping but given the choice you will LOVE California a lot more! Except for the cost of living!

Yes, I moved from So. Cal. to Irving TX last year. I hated it so much that I only lasted six months and then moved back to So Cal. The houses and gas prices are cheaper but that’s about it. The groceries and clothing is more experience?? and the fruit and vegetables are not as good quality as you get in CA. The clothing you can get cheaper, even name brand clothes. I moved to TX at the end of the summer and experienced the humidity during that time. I would have to say that it was like being in a sauna. When October came around I experience a cold front and everything turned into ice. Sorry but I like my Thanksgiving and X-mas days to be nice and sunny, preferably in the 80’s. Oh and the restaurants and fast food out there do not compare to the ones in CA. I’ve had better barbeque at The Pit in South Central LA than in TX, and the hamburgers, Please! Whataburger has nothing on IN-N-OUT. The life style in CA is 110% better. I have heard that Austin is very nice compared to Irving (Dallas) but I think you will love CA. I live in Riverside County which takes me about 45min to get to the Beach and about 45min to get to Big Bear Lake, which is a beautiful mountain by the way. If you feel like experiencing the night life, Hollywood is also 45min away. Other night life hot spots are Pine St. in Long Beach, Downtown Pasadena, the gas district (San Diego). Oh and Vegas is only about a 3 to 4 hour drive. Don’t forget about Palm-Springs either. This is a great weekend get away which is also about 45 min away. We also have great Vegas-like casinos spread throughout Southern CA. and don’t forget about the Kids! Disneyland “The happiest place on earth”, Six-flags Magic Mountain, SeaWorld, Legoland, Knotts-Berry Farm, and water slide parks all over and if you like fine shopping the SouthCoast Plaza would be your spot. If you are looking into moving to So Cal I would recommend Murrieta, Temecula, or Rancho Cucamonga. These are a little pricier than other I.E. cities but very nice and central between everything and cheaper than Orange County, LA County and San Diego County. Good LUCK!!!

Yeah, but it's not like you go all the time.
