Hi Everyone,
I am not very familiar with California but I do know there is a large Hispanic population and few African-Americans. In the San Bernardino area what is that population like? Is it lively and intertwined with the larger community or more isolated? I have a potential opportunity there and as a professional African-American female I would like to know if I will find like minded individuals. I will likely rent in the Riverside area as it seems to have nicer properties and less crime. Just curious at this point. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks So Much!

Cajun

Not sure how to state this without it sounding politically incorrect but San Bernardino is mostly hardcore ghetto. Just imagine the worst stereotypes of all races and you have a pretty good idea.

My son lives and goes to college in Riverside. He's white, one roommate is AA, one is Nigerian, and one is Hispanic. He attends a church that is primarily AA - they tease that he's the token white kid. A really nice, friendly group of 20-somethings, who always have something fun going on. As a professional, I think you'll find lots of like-minded people of all backgrounds. As the other poster mentioned, I would choose not to live in SB.

Depending on your age and what your interests are, San Bernardino might work, but there are other areas in and around there that would probably be more to your liking with more young people with similar ideas as yours.

Awesome, thank you. Riverside is looking like the area for me. Nicer apartments and such and the commute to San Bernardino doesn't sound too bad.

There is a community present in San Bernardino in the downtown area. There's a primarily African-American Christian church downtown as well

I'd rather live in Compton than in San Bernardino. At least it's closer to civilization.

Have you considered Redlands? I have always liked it there....I agree about staying out of San Bernadino.
