My wife and I will be moving to the area very soon. I'm curious why you live in Lake Elsinore yet shop in Temecula. Does Temecula have that much more shopping available? How do living conditions compare? The two towns seem to have about the same population.

Temecula has the closest mall and a lot more stores. There is a Wal-Mart in Lake Elsinore but the closest Best Buy, Mervyns, Lowes, etc. are in Temecula (unless something has been built in Lake Elsinore very recently). Temecula is a much nicer (and more crowded) area although Lake Elsinore is better than it used to be.

When I lived in the area my impression was the more people in Lake Elsinore commuted to OC and in Temecula people commuted south to SD.

Temecula has 1000000 times more to offer for stores and shopping. Lake Elsinore is run down and beat up. A lot of low low low income people there. It's very spread out and buildings and homes are scattered apart from each other. Lake Elsinore has always had a notorious reputation for drugs such as Meth. Most meth in Southern California is distributed out of Lake Elsinore. A lot of creepy looking people. They have started to build track homes and strip malls there, trying to brush up the city, but they have a long way to go.
Elsinore has a population around 40,000 people and has a major problemo with crime for such a small area. There are herds and herds of Hispanic gangs there also. On the other hand the Lake is so polluted that half of the fish live stock there are being found floating upon shore. I have lived in SD just about all of my life and lived Murrieta for 2 yrs, which is 5 minutes driving from Elsinore on the freeway. Elsinore is far from being A-1 up to par. But they're trying atleast.

Good grief Charlie Brown.... enough on Lake Elsinore already... Obviously you dont realize the crap crime in Beloved temecula huh? Elisnore has issues just liek every other town and to be honest it has chnaged tremendously over the years. We live in Wildomar have a beautiful home, no drama, no crime, no issues, no traffic to get on the freeway, we are closer to the 91 should we WANT to take it. but to go to the OC we take ortega and forego the Toll Road fees of the 91 which are what $10.00 now? i take Ortega to work and home everyday, and I am MOVING!!! not sitting on the 91 then trying to merge to the 15 to get home. nope I lived in Temecula back in the days when there were sheep and llama farms.... its now way over populated and built up. mall or no mall... I shop at fashion island and have no traffic and a beautiful view while doing my shopping. Seriously I despise going into Temecula unless I HAVE to I mean I go to Costo in Elsinore less crowded then Temecula.. Just trying to get around Temecula is a nightmare on the weekends... Oh ya, no breeze, houses are smacked close together.. uh no thanks.

The whole fish thing dying was way long time ago (4 -5 years) and the only thing that died there recently was a guy from Los Angeles kayaking on New Years Day.

The way I see it.... People from Temecula praise and scream how great thier town is...... they scream so loud about it, makes the rest of us wonder......who are they actually trying to convince? themselves or others?

All these stores are located in Murrieta as well as Temecula and some even in Elsinore. I vary rarely venture past Murrieta Hot Springs. To go shopping, if we eat out we may but then I go to Rancho Calif road and back track on Ynez or Margarita I hate Winchester EXIT

Temecula is one of the hottest areas to live in. I don't mean that in a good way. The temps there soar in summer above 100. Go towards Carlsbad or Vista. Vista California has the best weather in the nation which stay consisent pretty much all year. Summers are very nice there. One of my kids live there and love it. The homes are not new usually but they are big and roomy one stories which I prefer and the lots they are built on are much larger. If you need to contact a property management business let me know.

I realize that commute times are all subjective. Right now, my commute is 13 miles and that takes me 45 minutes so the idea of driving 30+ miles, freaks me out. Maybe traffic moves faster in the Inland Empire as opposed to my hometown?
Inland Empire traffic is now as bad as LA. Avoid it that where I live and we hate it and the schools. Go towards San Diego. Much Much better and the schools are the best.

Just moved to Temecula area but lived in LA for years and commuted to OC every day. Traffic in IE is not nearly as bad as LA. I know the 91 can be stop and go blah, blah, blah...but LA traffic is horrific. And I was commuting AGAINST traffic. Sorry people but all the freeway connections alone make the LA traffic a nightmare compared to the relative easy drive of 15 to 91. When I drove to OC from LA it was 101 to 5 to 605 to 405 to 22. Now it is 15 to 91. I used to drive 38 mile and now I drive 65 miles and I'll take this drive over the LA drive any day. Call me crazy. I must admit that I do drive pretty early to miss most of the traffic but I would still prefer the 91 to the 405, 101 or 5 in LA.
