It's really gotten out of hand. These panhandlers come right up to your car and ask you for money. If you're in a fast food place they come up to your table and say "Can you buy me something to eat?" Do I feel bad for them? Yes. Do I have money to hand out to everyone who asks? No. And I do get angry when they target me and my children and never approach my husband when we're out. To them it's their job to beg and I can't do my errands without being bothered by them. Has this happened to you?

Here's a novel idea. I'll bet she's considered being helpful. Believe it or not, it really works.

I really like where I live. It's a college town, it's got a lot of historical buildings and houses, and traffic is great compared to LA where I lived prior. I have to deal with it, it's just sad that some people make their living bothering others.

I guess you'll just have to suck it up and accept that some people starving is going to impact your life occasionally.

If you define starving as meaning wanting alcohol and drugs, then yes, they are starving. The vast majority of panhandlers (according to local police) are not homeless or hungry. They are drug addicts. How many have you taken into your home?

I guess that we run into different types of homeless people. Generally when I offer to buy food for somebody who is begging, they say YES! (The caps are to underline how happy they are when they hear that I am going to feed them.) The 10-15% who aren't interested in food are the scammers who just want your money. But in my experience it is about 7/8-to-1 who are happy to get food, vs. the scammers.

I haven't taken *you* into my home - does that make you a drug addict? I was rather surprised at the lack of logic in your reply.

Almost all the panhandlers around here refuse food. They will literally throw it in the trashcan if you give it to them. I'm not surprised that you're surprised. I figured as much.
