Hi i was wondering about moving to the Oroville, Lake Arrowhead area.
What is it like there ? I was going to buy a Mobile home in the area and move there , from east coast. I lived in the L.A. about 30 yrs ago and i moved back east to be with family. I am now looking to move back to the west coast , warmer weather. Any ideas ?

Oroville is by Chico, Apple Valley is in the High Desert and Lake Arrowhead is in the San Bernardino Mountains. Three completely different areas.

Hi Matt11! I don't know anything about Oroville. I can tell you some about Apple Valley and Lake Arrowhead. I live in Apple Valley about 30 minutes from Lake Arrowhead.

There is a LOT more snow in Lake Arrowhead. We get snow an average of twice a year here in Apple Valley and plenty of rain, but we have more dry weather than wet and it does get very hot here.

We are more populated here than Lake Arrowhead and so we have a higher crime rate.
We also have a lot more job opportunities.

Last I checked, the house prices were more in Lake Arrowhead than Apple Valley.

Lake Arrowhead has quite a few weather cams up and running. I don't think I can post a link here in the forum because the sites do have ads and might be against the forum rules, but a quick search with your favorite search engine should pull up the website cams with no problems.

Also, here are a couple of city-data links where we have talked some about the cities and towns here in the High Desert. There might be more here, but I’m still fairly new to the forum and haven’t searched everything yet. ;-)

You might also think about Hemet. I know there are quite a few mobile home parks there. It's not too far from Lake Arrowhead.

I live in Lake Arrowhead, and I can tell you that if you don't like snow, than Lake Arrowhead is not the place for you. We don't get nearly as much snow as places such as Lake Tahoe (35ft./yr) and Mammoth (40ft./yr.). We get about 5 to 8 ft. of snow per year. I can tell you, though, that it is not like an East Coast winter. On the east coast it is generally cloudy and miserable all winter. In the mountains of Southern California, it is generaly sunny and cool as soon as a snowstorm moves out. In Lake Arrowhead in the summer, it almost never rains and highs are generally in the high 70s. Also, on rare occasions it has snowed in Arrowhead in every month except July and August.

As for other information, the houses and cost of living tend to be higher in Lake Arrowhead than many surounding areas. Activities and job oppertunities are somewhat limited. Crime is almost non-existent. You do run a slight risk of almost having your house burned to the ground if some insane person decides to start a forest fire. (Oct. 2003)

I hope this information helps you out.

I lived in Lake Arrowhead for 12 years. ANd it's wonderful area. Very low crime as compared to those other areas you've mentioned (why such a diverse list???)

Will you be staying in the area - or do you need a job? Most people on the Mountain have to comute to the San Bernardino area (or farther) for work, which will KILL your car. And it's a long commute.

If you are looking for a mobile home - you might look into the Crestline or VOE area of the Mountain (20 minutes before Lake Arrowhead on Highway 18) It is where the more affordable areas are. Lake Arrowhead itself is a bit yuppie and has allot of vacation homes or larger expensive homes.

I don't know about Lake Arrowhead or Apple Valley, but I have been in Oroville. It's a small, rural town, but near Chico, a college town. Oroville is in the midst of farm communities, so there would be a lot of good produce available. I would imagine the weather to be much better there (although hot and dry in the summer), plus they do have the lake. You might also want to check into Paradise near Oroville. Good luck.
