where to have a baby in southern california
Hi, I am hoping someone can help me find a great place to have my baby. We just moved here from georgia. I had my first baby at Northside Hospital in Atlanta. The hospital is very nice and delivers thousands of babies a year. The birthing room was huge, very private and comfortable. The postpartum room was also very nice, but most importantly private. I do not want to take a chance of having to share my room with another mother/family and newborn. I mean can you imagine? you would not get any sleep-not that I expect much. Anyway, we live in the rancho cucamonga area, but we have family in very north sandiego county and in long beach. I could stay with them when I get near term if I need to. I really want to find out where the nice hospitals are in these areas. I toured Pomona Valley yesterday-I had heard it was a nice place-but, call me a snob, I don't care-I can't have my baby there. It was crowded, dark and they implied that they frequently have to put new moms in the shared rooms. Y'all I just can't do it. Someone please let me know where the nicest places are. Thank you.

I had my kiddos at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. I had excellent care and an excellent doctor (Stephen Raben).

Loma Linda University Children's Hospital is foremost in the Inland Empire in caring for children. We had ours there and we were given top-notch service. The doctors are caring and true professionals. It is a teaching hospital, just to let you know, but we were not intruded upon by the students there. I would rate it very highly, even compared to LA hospitals, which are not as close as water breaking would want it to be.

The Women's Hospital at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills is a great place to have a baby. I loved it and the birthing rooms were large and you get private rooms. The hospital is also not super crowded with emergencies and such, it focuses mainly on births. They have lots of programs too for mothers and seminars for baby care in the conference rooms. It is about 35-45 minutes from North San Diego or Long Beach though.

Loma Linda would be a great choice and very near you. ALL hospitals have tours for expecting mothers AND FATHERS. You go and see everything you want and ask all the questions before you decide. We had the 1st one at Whittier Hosp adn the second at San Dimas, both were very clean rooms were private adn the staff was good at Whittier and incredible at San Dimas.
Take the tours adn you'll know when it right. Also check adn see what hospitals your doctor contracts with, you may only have a choice of 2-3 hospitals with your Dr.

Hoag in Newport Beach. New (last year) pediatric wing, all private rooms and a view of the Pacific Ocean. We had our second there before the renovation and the nurses are amazing. We liked it better than Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles (Beverly Hills) where we had our first.

I had my first at Hoag in 1990. The nurses are amazing but the doctor was a total idiot. He wanted to send my kid home and rush him out despite the fact that our baby was severely sick (He didn't catch this). Before we left, the nurse finally convinced the doctor to check and he saw the problem. Basically our kid got sick from something at the hospital. We would have lost our first boy if it hadn't been for that nurse. Again, this is just one doctor so I'm not generalizing the entire hospital.

I wouldn't go to Pomona Hosp as it reminds me of a welfare hospital. We always use San Antonio in Upland as it's close and has a good reputation. It's small, but out of all the hospitals in this area, that's where I prefer...I also heard the big one in Riverside is nice, but I've never been there so I can't really comment on it..
