Yeah, I hear ya ! Especially when I tell people that I shoot in the 70's......but if it's hotter than that I STAY HOME !!!!
As for 'who' is taking us around...........well, I'm going to contact one realtor who phoned me a couple of weeks ago and go from there. I've also been getting info from another realtor, so that's a start. As for THE deal......I hope so. We've seen so many beautiful houses there. I think I'm leaning toward Victorville, the 92392 zip area, than Apple Valley or Hesperia for the simple reason that I like the house styles better. A 2-story place with a master down and good floor plan is one of the criteria we've put into the equation ! Thanks for the info on the local golf courses....wow, 6 or 7 ? I should be able to find one that I can't lose too many balls on !!! Regards.....................

To: Lokipr and SirVaysa (beer?) ~~~

I've been reading your threads today. I've lived in Victorville since 1987 ~ 21 years now. So I seen this valley grow , especially the last 5 yrs. ~~ If your fiance job is at Ft. Irwin driving to the Victor Valley will take you about 40 to 50 mins ,one way and thats alot of gas. And the Vegas traffic on a Friday or holiday ( depending on which way you go ) is another nightmare on its own. Others have said and are right , trying to go East on Bear Valley Rd during morning, evening and weekend traffic towards Apple Valley can take you 45 mins to get there. Going to Apple Valley from the North side of the valley can be a bit quicker but not by much.
~~ Twinkle Toes writes that "Victorville is just downright scary now!" and
~~ Booz30 writes that "I think you are over doing it, its not that bad now in Adelanto is very bad "
~~ I agree with Booz30 , even if someone gave me a house for free in Adelanto , to live in, I would NOT accept it. Victorville is not bad, unless your in the old downtown then there are problems. Also the area that booz30 decribes -South of Syacamore and East of 395 is where I have lived for the past 21 years .Yes there are new homes with TINY backyards and neighbors 'looking' into your backyard. Not my cup of tea, I love my privacy. My home is 3 bdrms, 2 baths, livingroom, familyroom w/ fireplace, 3 car garage on a half acre. Access from the side to the back for our trailer. Beautiful back yard with pond. Our front door faces the North so that the gargage gets the morning light (East) back of house (South) and Master Bedroom is on the West (We have a wood shed
10x20 on the west side, so the the Bedroom outside wall stays in the shade) . This is why we bought our home, this is the direction I wanted my house to face otherwise the bedrooms and familyroom would be unbearable in the summer. I have friends who you cannot be in the familyroom in the summer, even if they have a patio cover because of the intense heat. It is windy pretty much all year, from a breeze to 50mph but then again we have no smog. The local elementary is Hollyvale , my youngest goes to 5th grade there, great school. We live in Victorville but the school district for us is Hesperia School District . So that means that my 11 year old will have to go to Hesperia Jr High and Hesperia High School. My oldest went to these schools in 1990-1996 and they have gotten worse since then. ~~ The best school district is Snowline in the areas of Phelan but most of Phelan are dirt roads.
Adelanto ~~ would NOT rent or buy there, schools (because the type of kids) I wouldn't place my child there
Apple Valley~~ Many nice areas , nice schools ,LONG commute from freeway ,no street lights in residential areas - light pollution
Hesperia~~ Some nice areas , some schools good, LONG commute from freeway in some places, some curbs and sidewalks, NO sewers, so Main St and other streets get FLOODED in the rainy season, streets with LOTS of potholes, little in street cleaning, small to 3-4 acres lots. larger lots can have farm animals , horses. street lighting.
Victorville~~ Some nice areas, some schools good, SHORT commute from freeway in most places, mostly small lots, to 1/2 to 1 acre lots, some curbs and sidewalks , street cleaning. street lighting
Phelan~~Some nice areas, great schools, mostly large lots 1-2 acres up to 7-8 acres , mostly dirt roads
As far as entertament , it depends on what you like, movies-yes , mini golf-yes , roller skating-yes ,mall -yes , softball-football-basketball leagues, classes at the college, Victoria Gardens-yes-35 mins away, lots of things to do just find what you want.

SirVaysa~ sorry but Bougainvillea does not do well up here, too hot in the summer ,it burns, and too cold in the winter, Citrus does not make it up here, but apricots , apples, plums, pomegranits, cherries, strawberries, do wonderful.

Someone could not pay me to move to that valley. And there is smog, I have seen it. And the smog there comes over to Lake Havasu.

We dont mind moving a little farther so we are thinking either Victorville or Apple Valley. I had read the posts about both cities but they are almost the same about both. I just need to some feedback on which town is better to live at in terms of safety, entertainment (I read they are both boring) apartment renting since Im not buying a house there for now, which areas are better to live and rent and Im a nurse so it would be nice if there was a nice hospital or clinic closed by.

Any feedback will be welcomed.

Thanks
I don't think their is anything close to Ft Irwin . Ft Irwin is a long ways off the 15 and a long ways from the nearest town. Have you look into that???

Default Apple Valley vs Victorville

Both Apple Valley and Victorville has their good and not so good areas.
Apple Valley you could live close to St. Marys Hospital and Victorville has Desert Valley Hospital and Victor Valley Hospital.

Are schools a concern. Have you thought about Phelan, remote, but quiet.

Thanks for a very comprehensive post, Mama. And, YES......Sirvaysa/Cerveza... You got it !!! We are in V'ville right now for the 2nd time in 2 weeks. Put in an offer on a gorgeous place in the 92392 zip code but got outbid by a few thousand $$. Went back to Lemoore to re-group and will spend the next 3 days here, doing another "search & seize" mission. Boy the wind was wicked coming through the Mojave from Bakersfield today but I guess that's the norm, based on those giant windmills all over the canyons. More later, hopefully with a viable contract in hand.

Default Getting Settled

Well, it's now the 30th of May and we are back here, staying at the Comfort Suites until we get the keys to the house we thought we were outbid on !!!!!! Yesssss, we got it, and for less than we sold our home for in Florida, so the 'relativity thing' is what it's all about. I told my daughter in law that even if we sold our FL home for $25.00 and found one here for $20.00, I'm a happy camper. Essentially, that's what happened. Just add a few more zeroes !!
So far, the weather is boring......yeah, every day the same: CRYSTAL CLEAR BLUE SKIES, refreshing breeze, bright sunshine and quiet, now that all the commuters have gone down the hill. But, we'll try to get used to it ! Going to pick some brains at the hospital today, as to which physicians are recommended for various specialties.
Thank you all......for your input on this forum. It has made our transition a lot easier, being informed on some key issues. I feel that I can soon be one of the "informative" posters here.
Hasta Luego...............SirVaysa (the N.A. type nowadays !)
