Upland isn't a bad area. Not too large of a crime problem and a decent quality of life.

I can't really add more than what other people have written about Upland. But, I would agree with most of the statements. I grew up in Upland- a very nice, bedroom community. It is a great place for a family to live-perched on the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains- near Montclair Plaza and Ontario Mills (both shopping malls), as well as not far from Victoria Gardens. It has decent schools, low crime rate. The more north you go the nicer the homes (and more expensive). It is about 35 miles east of Los Angeles. A great place to live-just validating most of the prior statements.

I need to rent a car and stay in a hotel for a couple days in late September. Where is good places right in the downtown area? Especially near Foothill and Euclid streets?

I grew up in Upland, my siblings and I attended Sycamore Elementary, Pioneer Jr. High, and Upland High School. My parents still reside in Upland, just below San Antonio Heights, off Mountain Ave. My siblings and I would love to be able to purchase a home there, but unfortunately, not affordable. The crime rate is lowing the Northern part, but isn't that bad down below either. It has been in the works of cleanng up the bad, so that is a great thing. Upland police dept. is a quiet dept., envied and sought out by others for employment for that same reason. I love downtown! There's a great bakery, mexican restaurants, dance studio, ice cream parlor, and a small community theater, if you have interest in performing arts. Every Thursday is the farmers market, every year the lemon festival, and for Christmas the lighting of the tree, along with the Christmas parade. Just alone in our Upland community there is so many fun things to do, and reat places to visit, not to mention the restaurant serving up great food. Im sure your young ladies will enjoy it here, you ....just maybe may like it so much and decide u too need to relocate.

Where in Upland? It's pretty much a contiguous urban area that includes Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Fontana, etc. You know for sure you'll be in Upland? Exactly where means a lot. My sister has lived in the area for years. There are good area, bad ones, and in between. She and her family like it, but I'm sure there are areas where they wouldn't want to live. My wife and I have visited several times. Seen some very nice areas, and some not-so-great. Not always easy to tell when we were in Upland vs. a neighboring community. It's not cheap, but if I had enough money I could definitely fine some places where I'd like to live. We consideed it for a seocnd home (currently residing overseas), but a small quake when we last stayed in Rancho Cucamonga dissuaded my wife (wasn't a big shaker).

Nice to have access to mountins for hiking and skiing. Not a long drive to L.A. (there are also Metrolink commuter trains) and even to Las Vegas, etc. It's a ways from the ocean, but you can go for the day. Places like San Diego or Vegas, better for a weekend. Ontario International Airport certainly doesn't have the variety of flights that LAX has, but once there it's fairly small, uncrowded and easy to use. If you fly from Perth, you can probably add on the short hop (on a commuter plane) to Ontario. Or rent a car or use a shuttle from LAX. I am not in love with the heat and air pollution, but there aar far, far worse places. And, as noted, you can escape to other locales. Note that some people may not know much about Oz apart from Outback Steakhouse (we've been to one in Upland). Ontario Mills and Victoria Gardens and Montclair Plaza shopping malls are pretty good, and there's an "outlet mall" out in Cabazon, on the way to Palm Springs. On summer evenings you can go see a minor league baseball team, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Good fun.

Flying all the way from Perth for a couple of days?? There are some hotels in Upland itself (e.g., Best Western), but many more near Ontario Airport. Our favorites in the area (usually gotten through Hotwire or similar) are probably the Hilton Ontario Airport, Aloft Rancho Cucamonga and Hyatt Place Ontario Mills, all close to Upland, but there are many choices. You don't need to be in "downtown" Upland unless you're dealing with offices, etc. there. It's more like a suburban town, with businesses, restaurants and such spread out.

The fact that CAVA was born there gives it a certain panache.
