All 50 listings the realtor sent me were beige stucco boxes, which surprised me because I've always thought of the area as THE mecca of Midcentury Modern. A quick Zillow search turned up only a few modernist homes in questionable shape. I will be flying out at the end of the month for a single day of house hunting and want to give my realtor a chance of showing something with more architectural integrity. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not really interested in a "golf course lifestyle"!
There's not much in the way of "mid-century modern" IN Palm Desert. The city wasn't even incorporated until 1973, and was pretty much a master-planned community. Palm Springs is the epicenter of the MCM movement, for better or for worse. (I for one can't stand it) All the cities in the CV are so close together that you'll be able to live in PS and work in PD or LQ. Be prepared to pay a high price, though. MCM is so over-priced because it's the current hip fad.

Keep an eye on the Cathedral City Cove area. There are some MCM there that aren't as pricey as Palm Springs. It's a nongated eclectic neighborhood.
