" see you live in Utah now--that's actually higher on my preference list for places I'd like to live, but the problem is trying to get a job in my preferred locations there."

Utah has been kind to us since we moved four years ago, and I agree, if I had a preference I would live in the Southern part of the state St George area, BUT, there are no jobs up there. The SLC area is great, and jobs are plentiful, but cold winters, hot summers.

My wife and looked at Las Vegas, housing is getting affordable again, there are plenty of jobs, and a lot to do, BUT.....something keeps us away, there seems to be crime juts about everywhere in Vegas, even in the nice neighborhoods, and smut almost everywhere you look. We have small children and hope to settledown somewhere soon (haven't live in one place for more than 4 years). We have friends that live in Vegas and they said the schools are horrible, and they have lived in 5 different areas in 7 years trying to get some place nice.

Riverside County was nice when we lived there, I did HATE the traffic and the cost of everything in CA always seemed higher than most other places. BUT, you are close to mountains to hike, desert to play or ocean to sun bathe, so CA is not that bad. If you can get over the higher cost of living, and crowds, then it is not so bad.

We love Utah, and would stay forever, but our family is in California, which is the ONE and ONLY reason we are considering moving back.

I live in Richfield, Utah, and understand your draw to the National Parks and trails we have in southern Utah. Your wife will probably have an easy time finding work at a bank (or credit union) in Richfield. Although there are not many high-paying jobs here, some of the best are government jobs ...which says a lot for them to be one of the highest-paying employers! So check on line to see what is available from the federal or state offices. If you only need to survive, it can be done by a two-income family, as many things are less expensive here, such as housing. Now, just a plug for hiking: you can save on vacation expense, because you won't have to go far to enjoy the scenery.
