Default Coachella

Looking to move to Coachella. Any information on the area would help. Schools, jobs, areas to see, areas not to see. Moving from a colder wetter climate. Doctor says it should be warmer and dry. I am a teacher so I will be teaching school.

Default Try another city

I lived in Coachella many years, you might want to try Palm Desert, Cathedral City. Coachella is a very old town and kind of run down. When you are there you will see that Palm Desert is a 15 minute drive from Coachella and the school system is always hiring down there.

So if you go down there there are many many town that are right next to each other where you can live. Bermuda Dunes, Palm Desert, Cathedral City, Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage are the nicer ones.

All within a rocks throw from each other.

Good Luck! The summer is super hot but the winters are great.
You are talking about the desert! I have arthritis and the weather really helps.

I moved to the Cali. desert 3 years ago from Washington State. I've felt a big difference in my joints, mainly my knees. I have almost no pain here! I can tell when it's going to rain here, because I feel the way I used to. My allergies are also much better here, and I have no asthma at all anymore.
The Living Desert Museum is nice, as also the Palm Springs Museum, a lot of good concerts at the McCallum Theatre, and a decent swap meet at the College of the Desert on weekends. There is a good film festival once a year. Joshua Tree National Park is beautiful.
Traffic sucks bigtime, though it gets much better in the summer. Housing prices are crazy!!! There seems to be Meth drug problems and a corrupt city government in Desert Hot Springs.

coachella is the worst city in the coachella valley i have lived here for 16 years and know it quite well indio would be a better option and la quinta would be even better those are the closest citys to coachella i suggest teaching at emilia earheart elementry school or john gleen middle school or la quinta high school stay away from palm desert schools and coachella schools there are plenty of golf courses and movie theaters.

Coachella has a lot of poor minorities living there. There are some newly built communties there however. It is east of the affulent areas such as Palm Desert, Palm Springs, etc. I would pick one of those to live in instead and only a stones throw from Coachella. There are about 3 casinos in that area if you are in to gambling. Hotter than hades summers but great winters.

Default I agree...

You'd probably want to live in another city. Coachella has a lot of poverty and the problems that poverty brings as far as crime, etc. To work in the Coachella District, you'll find Spanish skills useful, if not necessary. The Desert Sands District pays the best, but it's hard to get into the newer more desirable schools. You're more likely to be assigned to an Underperforming school, which are challenging to work at (I work at one). La Quinta and Indio both have a lot of new construction, but Indio is more affordable and appears to be putting a lot of money into redeveloping and improving the city. I work in a part of Indio that is high crime, but North Indio seems okay.

Area not to see: Salton Sea, polluted and smelly. The further east, the smellier.

Smile Family

My mother grew up in Coachella many years ago--she's 86 now--and I spent a few vacations down there until my grandparents died. I still have family in that area. Does anyone know the Estels? I believe one of my uncles was the first mayor of Coachella; this was probably some time in the 1930s.

Thanks!

Indio has a lot of new developements over by Shadow Hills which are nice.
Plus they are building a super target I think and a gigantic movie theatre
over there... I'd pick Shadow Hills are over Coachella... or La quinta
if you want to still have the low utilities and be closer to major shopping.
Palm Desert has HIGH utility costs.
