Goodbye said: "And don't even get me started on the self-absorbed, pretentious queens from West Hollywood and San Francisco."
GbC, I assume you are referring to the young hussies and not gay men, LOL!
Bluesbabe, why would the Pacific Northwesterners dislike the Coachella Valley? Please explain yourself as I'm not very familiar with the Pac NW, although I do continue to watch old Twin Peaks episodes over and over again. And yes, I can sing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in the shower. Obviously, the weather and climate is extremely different.

She probably means they wouldn't want to be here year round because of the summers. There are a LOT of people here from PNW and Canada - those are our "snowbirds".
It's okay if you want to trust someone with fewer posts and fewer reps than people who have been on the forums longer, and in fact, have been long term year round residents of the Coachella Valley. That's your prerogative. However, I would urge you to physically get out here to our valley and see it for yourself and come to your own conclusions. The desert may not be for you at all, but it isn't what the Monkey said it is.
I'd love to stay and chat a while, but I've gotta throw on my striped purple and green pants and my orange and blue Hawaiian shirt, grab my hot pink sunglasses and my wide brimmed hat and some gold bling and head out to the Palm Springs strip in my green Lambo with my poodle!

The Monkey huh? Don't you think that is really disrespectful and rude to say? Just because I have a different opinion than you.
And the ironic thing is that you're trying to make the point that people in Palm Springs are not rude by saying this. Great job.
That's like the person who slams his fist down on the table and yells "I'm not angry!".
Classy.

Try reading my name again nice and slow. Say it out loud if that helps.

To everyone other than FunkyMonk I apologize for even responding to his posts. This thread is not about him, or his name. The thread is about Palm Springs and I will gladly offer my assistance with any questions about Palm Springs. I have a great deal of knowledge about the area as I am a long time, full time resident of the Coachella Valley. Now, let's get back to the topic at hand ...

Why would you choose to apologize to everyone except me? After all, you called me a monkey.
This IS the Palm Springs room I guess. So this is a little taste of Palm Springs for me. I get to be called a monkey. Fabulous

Your typical Pacific Northwesterns ~ practically all of them ~ melt when it reaches over 75 degrees. Not exaggerating. Also, they have to have their trees, everything engulfed in green. Palm trees are not really "trees" to them, and the basic flat lay-out of the valley isn't their cuppa' tea, either.
Me, I find beauty in all forms of 'scape. I've been here 30 years but was born and raised in the Central San Joaquin Valley, which I still visit (as well as Palm Springs every other year). I find desert beautiful. And I sure do miss the beautiful springtimes.
Twinkle Toes, I personally don't know anyone who snowbirds in Palm Springs but I've known a few who do in Arizona (Yuma, mostly). I'm glad to read that a few of these hard-to-understand northwesteners can at least make peace with a little bit of desert during the winter months.

Parts of Indio are just fine and others are pretty bad. Just like any other town i.e., Desert Hot Springs has a bad reputation but there is a new gated golf course community in DHS that is beautiful! My husband and I recently retired to Palm Springs and love it.

In regard to Funky's post, I live in Palm Springs and am in my 20's. I drive a truck and live towards the northern part but I could afford to buy a shiny new BMW and live in a flashy house but I choose not to. Oh and I'm also a female and not gay. So before you go stereotyping realize most of the people walking around downtown are tourists and not locals. Granted there may be some older people who want to enjoy themselves here. What's the problem with that? Why do you have such blatant disrespect for your elders? For all you know those people with the flashy cars could have saved up their whole life for one and to move out here. I know it's a dream for a lot of people. So do us all a favor and don't come visit again since it obviously doesn't suit your taste.
