Great photos, FresnoFacts! I will go look for the others, too. I followed the race in the local papers I began subscribing to in January. The race seemed to generate a lot of excitement. Your pics are much better than the ones in the papers though. Ah, the Sierras--they clutch at the heart every time. Absolutely gorgeous is right. Proximity to the wilderness is one of my primary reasons for settling down in the area.

Smog has blocked the Sierra view for years, limiting the days they were visible. But that has changed as these pictures show.

Bad air days in Fresno and the Valley have dropped, the last 3 or 4 years it has been only about 20 or 25 bad days vs. 60 or 70 or more we were seeing just a few years ago.

The city of Fresno has a goal that by 2025 on all non-cloudy, non-foggy days the Sierra view will be there for all residents to enjoy.

So far they are making good progress with that cut in bad air days.

of those 3. I'd choose Fresno, then Merced, then Madera. They all have the same weather and poor air quality. The mountains are seldom visible through the smog. I put them in that order, basically, because of population size, and what they have to offer as far as entertainment and shopping.
