Hi, I live in Corona off of the 15 right next to Mira Loma. I might have to commute to a job in Santa Monica for the next few months before the roommate and I are able move to LA. Some questions:
1.) What is the fastest/easiest way to commute? According to Mapquest, I should take the 15 to the 60W to the 10W. Is that my only choice? Or is there a better/easier route? 2.) Must be at work by 9 -- what time should I anticipate to leave my house? What kind of traffic should I expect at that hour? 3.) If my memory serves me right, the 10W from the 60W passes through the 101 and then the 405 interchanges. Are those the horrid, horrid intersections that LA commuters are constantly frustrated over? Thanks everyone! |

Seriously dude. OC to LA is bad enough. All the way to Santa Monica is even worse BUT Corona to SM? I don't know. What time are you leaving SM to go home? That might be your real problem. I'm going to say you should rent a room somewhere or else take the train to downtown and then catch a bus. My wife took a job in SM once when we lived in Anaheim and it took her 3 hours to get home everyday. She quit in 2 weeks. I really don't know what to say. You should rent a room, it's probably cheaper than gas.

If you ride a motorbike, you can do it in around an hour, lane splitting.
In a car, you might have to set off at 6:30am. I used to go from Corona to Redondo Beach on a motorbike, took 1 hour. Wasn't that safe. |

Depending on where you live in Corona, you need to be on the 91 by 6am latest. Take 91 East to 110 North to 10 West. Areas around 10/405 interchange near Santa Monica are a "choke point" but you can jump off the 10 and use surface streets such as Olympic that are wide and will take you right into Santa Monica. Avoid the 405 both morning and evening.
Tips to reduce travel time: first, see about working flex hours (e.g., 7a-3p, or even better, 6-2 -- earlier is better, later is not); second, get a 91 Tollroad pass; third, find someone to carpool back and forth with, because having a second person in the car will allow you to use the many carpool lanes available. Your job may have a listing of those wanting to carpool and/or may pay for your Tollroad pass. Finally, look up whether there are commuter bus services from Riverside/Corona area to the West Side. You'll like Santa Monica. EL- |
