similar boat. I started looking in Eastvale, a new community just north of Norco, for the bang for your buck. A lot of the homes are new builds and the schools score great. For us, it felt somewhat soulless because its such a new community and a lot of people commute. We discovered South Corona and love it here. 92881 and 92882 are within Santiago high school district (the better of the 3 in terms of score). Good restaurants nearby, shopping, and slightly cooler being on a hill. The 91 is not as bad as I thought...but then again, I take fastrak, so factor that into your commute budget. I wouldn't be able to survive without fastrak. Be careful about special assessments for the zip codes I gave you. It's not listed on Redfin or zillow, but shows up on mls.

Corona would make a lot of sense for your price range, or perhaps even Chino. (shopping in chino hills is awesome) You will definitely get more bang for your buck when it comes to nicer and bigger homes. Location of both of those cities would make alot of sense also being centralized to orange county and los angeles counties.

I would hold off until the construction on State Route 91 through Corona is finished. Look it up. Commuting to Orange is a nightmare now.

Chino Hills is great if you can afford it. Corona is fine as well. Of course the 91 freeway is the huge elephant in the room. To get from Corona to Orange basically have no choice but to take that freeway. How bad it is does depend on what time you are on the road.

SN: I'm still amazed there are so many people who think the Inland Empire is some sleepy swath of desert. I have quite a few relatives out there. So I make it out there a lot. There is a lot to do. And there is just a lot of things out there period. Personally, I like a lot.

My husband works in Orange. We live in Menifee. It's a long commute. Areas of Corona are nice. I've heard Chino Hills is nice. If he could stand the commute from Wildomar, Menifee, or Murrieta those are nice places. Murrieta is especially top notch with schools. I have a friend who's husband commutes to Orange County via the Ortega and they live in Wildomar. We are considering a move to Horse Thief Canyon area or Murrieta right off Clinton Kieth Rd. For easy access to the 15. Best of luck.

The schools are amazing and has all the stores you want.. The traffic sucks big time but they expansion for the freeway should be done soon.. You can get a fast track to bypass lots of traffic.. My husband works in Orange but he takes a motorcycle to work..
I suggest you look in Corona or Chino Hills.. ♥
It's been WAYYY longer than 20 years since orange groves- more like 30+

Absolutely hate Corona, can't get a decent job, and ask anyone who lives there, they all want out.

I feel bad, since i am he only native Californian in my family. Mom boyfriend and myself are moving to Oregon soon.

Corona is just a built up these days as anywhere in OC, it is less expensive due to less jobs and a bit further from the coastline. Corona is not cheap, $500,000 is a standard tract home these days. Chino Hills is even more expensive not much different that North OC.

A new area to come soon in South Corona in a most undeveloped area, a change to get in early before it all developed out and twice the price.
