Like much of the rest of the TemecHELLa Valley!
I see that you are pretty geographically challenged.

It always kind of makes me chuckle when people say Temecula is a suburb of San Diego.

El Centro is just a little farther drive from downtown San Diego than Temecula, yet no one calls El Centro a "suburb" of San Diego.

A suburban area isn't just defined by "geography" but also economics and commuting patterns. It has a lot to do with where primary residential/shopping areas are located vs. primary industrial areas and job centers.

Most Temecula and Murrieta residents are reliant on jobs in San Diego County. Most of the jobs Temecula/Murrieta people commute to are in North San Diego County, which makes them economically reliant on San Diego -- despite a mountain range and county line separating both. The economic pull toward San Diego County is so great that geography and politics are minor issues.

It's the same reason that Tracy, California and Modesto (way out in San Joaquin County) are now considered suburbs of the San Francisco Bay Area, despite not being geographically on the Bay itself and being isolated on the other side of the Altamont Pass.
