Default Tell me why it's bad PLEASE

Why is everyone telling me not to move to Perris?

Can anyone explain the reason why its not a good place because I am supposed sign an offer for a home right by Lake Perris tomorrow. I don't really care if there isn't anything to do in the city, I go to Orange County on weekends...but why isn't it a great place to move to?

Is Moreno Valley better?

Any comments I'd appreciate!!

I am not the expert on Perris but I do know a few things:

1) The crime in parts is bad. I think there are some decent areas now however.
2) The air quality, in the summer especially, can get pretty bad.
3) I wouldn't want to live below the dam. They are draining the lake because of seismic concerns with the dam.

SE Moreno Valley is definitely better. So are Sun City, Menifee, and Hemet IMO.

Hope that helps.

Dont do it!.

The area is not good, schools are bad, Perris makes Moreno Valley look good.

Do you plan on fighting the traffic every weekend to OC?

Thanks for the fast response.

I've heard about the dam and the possiblility of it breaking...I know they have drained it but that aspect doesn't really concern me.

I'm more worried about the crime. The home is a newer home, 1400 sq, and is selling for 160k. Something seems a little too good to be true.

Thats why I'm wondering what is so bad about Perris. The main issues that concern me are crime.

I understand the traffic gets bad and on weekends it isn't a big deal for me.

Why is Moreno Valley better than Perris?

Crime could certainly be an issue. But for me I would really be concerned about the current housing market. The inland empire is getting hit hard right now and the farther out the harder. Places like Perris wil continue to decline in price. If you wait till say next year, you might be able to get a home way closer to civilization for the same price.

Ohh geez. Perris and Moreno Valley are both bad places to live for all of the reasons mentioned above. There are so many beautiful places to live out your life, why choose these two?

OK so I've read everyones comment and I'm wondering when was the last time you all were out in Perris CA?

I bought a home out here in June of 2007, right by the dam and lake... which by the way is very pleasant and nice to go to. No, it's not dirty and as for the fact of it breaking.... more freeways collapse during an earth quake than dams breaking!

I have to say that there are good points and bad points to living here. I moved from Redondo Beach, CA area and do miss the ocean and cooler weather during the summer. However, I'm also glad to be rid of about oh 50,000 people =)
I was getting tired of the traffic... the rude and selfish people and just the area in general.
Out here it's more open, QUIETER (which is a huge bonus for me) and just generally not as busy.
Now if you like a happening place that is always noisy, don't move here.

The other draw back moving to a mostly rual area is there isn't much to do and just about any shopping I want to do has to be done in Moreno Valley.

I think the reason that your being offered the house at such a low price is because of the housing slump and chances are if it's already built it was either a foreclosure or escrow fell through for those who wanted it built.

The crime has not been bad... growing up in Torrance we had at least 5 gangs in the area and more outside of it. You learn what spots are good and what are bad.
So far I have not had a problem. I read the paper everyday and I hear about no more crime in Perris than I do about Moreno Valley or Hemet or around the world for that matter.
If you plan on commmuting for work though, please think through the move. Because of the construction that is forever going on on the 60 fwy and the same on the 74 it's an horrible commute.
My husband works in Downtown LA and if it weren't for the metro we would not be here.

I hope this helps a little. Over all we are happy here... we have a huge new house, a park as our backyard and a new school at the front of our communtiy going up.
Have a great day!

Everyone made very good points. Thank you all for your input. We are supposed to make an offer in two hours. I think I will just wait and continue to look around.
