hi, i have not lived in yucca valley, but was looking to relocate there myself. i have grown up in socal, and always thought yucca valley/joshua tree holds a special magic, that is if you find beauty in the desert. it is greener than most deserts (has joshua trees and rolling hills), then if you like rock climbing, joshua tree is gorgeous. the reason i did not relocate there, is the job availability. in your profession, though, of course no problem. good luck in your search

Several posts state there's a "lack of jobs" in Yucca Valley. Two comments:

1. How friendly is the area to entrepreneurs? For example if I wanted to start doing real estate or a home based internet business are there obstacles to development?

2. What is the commute like down to Palm Springs if you find a job down there?

The investment potential of buying a house for $50K-$100K is incredible in today's recession -- vs. paying rent for eternity in other outdoors places that are overpriced like Flagstaff and Boulder (CO).

I would suggest renting. This pretty much goes with any area you aren't familiar with. You don't want to lock yourself into something and find out two weeks into it that you hate it there. Been there, done that, and it was costly.

You may get here and decide Yucca is too rural for you and you prefer the more cosmopolitan areas of Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Rancho Mirage or Indian Wells.

There are so many "deals" here now that you would be wise to rent for a while and check everything out and make an informed decision. Best of luck to you.

I agree with Twinkle Toes. Play it safe, rent first, if you like the place then go full-steam.
