We're an older gay male couple who are relocating to Palm Desert from the East Bay this summer.
I'm transferring to my company's Palm Desert office near 1-10/Cook St. He's retiring but will be doing some consulting work from home. He also uses a scooter to get around and would need essentials (coffee, groceries) nearby.

I've been doing due diligence and have concluded that the area around Hovley Lane West between Monterey and Portola would suit us best. Close to my office, shopping, and Eisenhower Medical. Many houses here are within our price range (450-500k). We are already working with a realtor.

Does anyone have any additional info on this area? I know PD has a lot of vacation rentals and we don't want to buy in an area with loud parties and people coming and going. Golf, schools, and night life are not important to us. Thanks!

Your realtor should be able to help you regarding areas and developments that do/don't permit short-term rentals (STRs). The city's website has more info regarding STRs: https://www.cityofpalmdesert.org/our...tal-moratorium

My understanding is that most condo complexes don't allow less than monthly rentals - some RE websites also show this. If you haven't been there yet, try https://cdaronline.org Also, 55+ developments should be more quiet than the average.

Unless $$ is burning a hole in your pocket and you don't mind buying near the top of the market, you would be wise to rent for awhile to get a better feel for the area.

In the area you like, I think there is a Jensen's market on the corner, in walking distance.
