Property for Re-Locators to get started cheaply
I am in a little village 45 miles west of Bakersfield - house is for sale for 141,000 $$$ - It is ten miles north of Taft on hwy 33 and is called the old firehouse and shoe repair property (in Derby ACres - postal zip Fellows 93224) which sits on an acre and a third and has a two bedroom one and half baths and four out-buildings and a large privacy fenced yard. It;s a started home for someone relocating but close enough to the I-5 corridor to make the San Diego or northern CA trip with ease (I still get my main business mail down in the San Fernando Valley).
I have desert properties with a camper or motor home on them as well for someone wantng to start out really on the cheap (like 15,000 $$$). Feel fre to contact me by mail here or call 661-768-4104. You may be able to use the equity in things there to re-finance to but with cash here then refinance this place to pay yourself ahead of time and get an established business(es) going from here to be able to later move to a more expensive area.

I used to live right at the corner of bellflower and villa. The person that we sold our house to is asking if we want to buy it back. I fell so bad for them, it was their first home.

Hi Sinaloa,
Have you considered Oceanside?
We love it because it is a beach town with a small town feel, plus I think house prices are not bad. We've considered moving there.
I've heard Yucaipa is very nice too.
We've lived in Murrieta/Temecula for 10 years and are tired of the traffic at all hours (specially in Temecula). Some parts of it are cute but the problem is that many people are moving here from SD and LA and it feels like the area is busting at the seams now (unlike 10 years ago when we first moved here and it was much less populated). I currently live in Temecula.
Another town that is still ok is Menifee (off the 215 after Murrieta going toward Riverside). It is safe and clean, however I can tell it's on the way to becoming a Temecula in a few years, over populated and traffic ridden.

Not that there arent still people moving out, but many are moving back, as well.
Remember though, that no matter where you choose to live, if possible, try to have a job lined up FIRST, or at least a potential hopeful, and have a backup plan, just in case. Thats the most important factor.
PS: Whats wrong with Texas? I wouldnt mind living in a small town out there.

Add me to that 'wishing to return to California' list as well------and, I have been here in Arizona for damn near 20 years now. That desire has really started hitting me hard in just the last 30 days.......almost as if I am having a premonition. Unknown as to what/why-----but, I have learned not to ignore a vibe like that.
Me: I am scoping out the 'Hi-Desert' AKA Yucca Valley/Joshua Tree, etc.
Had someone told me that I would want to move back to SoCal even 5 years ago------I would have laughed.

To Cruzy, I live in Redlands-it is located next to Yucaipa in the Inland Empire-San Bernardino County. Redlands has one of the best Public School Systems in the State of California. Redlands High School was named as one of the top high schools in the country and was listed in the top 5% !! That was one of the reasons we moved here. I am born and bred LA -first generation Californian. My mother was from Iowa and my father was from Texas. I will never move out of California- my husband moved here from Idaho-33 yrs ago-and hasn't looked back. He hates SNOW. He does return to Idaho to visit family-that is it. Good luck on your relocation.

Point well taken.
I am a Wash DC native with a congenital dislike towards snow as well (admittedy; I am not referring to the fluffy stuff that melts in a day or two in Yucca Valley, etc. but that nasty slushy crap).
Been contemplating Charleston, W Va. but, again the winter weather bites

Have lived in O'side, Fallbrook & Temecula; hubby works in Poway

Hi all,
Thoought I'd throw my 2 cents in since I've lived in a lot of the cities mentioned in this thread and my hubby works for the city of Poway...
Temecula has been my most favorite place in terms of quality of life for a family, convenience, entertainment, and community. It is a bit of a jaunt to the beach and doesn't have a lot of night life, but it is surprisingly affordable for how clean and convenient it is and is great for raising kids.
Fallbrook is beautiful, but totally inconvenient. We used to have to drive to Temecula at least once a week just to go to Target/the Mall/Costco etc. Now we live here and save a lot on gas. The elementary school in Fallbrook didn't even compare, in any way, to the fantastic school my kids go to in Temecula.
Poway has highly rated schools, that's definitely true....but the cost of homes is so insanely high compared to Temecula, and for no good reason except that in the fancier neighborhoods, you'll find mansions that belong to pro sports players. Hubby works for the City of Poway and would rather make the commute all the way down the 15 every day than move out of Temecula and go to Poway. He assures me that no "regular" neighborhood in Poway is nearly as nice as the "regular" neighborhoods in Temecula.
Anyhoo, hope I didn't ramble too much! Good luck to everyone in their home searches

I hope to get on the bandwagon and return home to SoCal myself soon! I just need to find good jobs for myself and my boyfriend (he in computer science, me in biology). I grew up in the IE (Rancho Cucamogna) and am thinking about moving somewhere in the San Diego area.
