For those moving back and wanting to move back, how are you deciding that the heat of the summer (especially in the Inland Empire area) you can deal with it? What is the tradeoff, is it missing family the most that draws you back?
I'm wanting to move out of the heat, so it is with interest that I'm reading so many wanting to come back. The cooler areas just seem to pricey and if you had a job, it would necessitate a long commute, which isn't fun either.

Personally moving back would mean being close to Family, living in a cultural diverse community, and yes the warm weather. We have 6-7 months of winter where I live. After the 3rd month you literally feel depressed. The outdoors look grey and white and all you can think about is how long before you can see colors in your garden. Dealing with the heat is much easier than changing your community, being isolated, and freezing your buns off

The summers from Wash DC on down south are comparable the heat here in the Phx area factoring in the heat index. 105F here when the humidity is below 20% is no worse than DC with its 90F temps but with its muchhigher humidity.
Besides: Riverside is a tad cooler than Phx anyway

Yeah ... sometimes you have to move away to appreciate a place. I guess I was lucky in that I had already lived in a lot of other states before I came to California so ... I never bought into the arguments that other places were better.
Even with all of the its flaws, nothing compares to California.

My condolences ... there's no way around it ... snow does suck. That's why I laugh when people argue that places like Idaho and Colorado are so great ... like freezing your buns off is a great thing.

lulyel, I feel for you. The only suggestion I can make is to reach out to your Family. Maybe they can help. I can't afford to go back to same Community I lived in but at this point I'll settle for just being back in Cali. Ventura County is beautiful! Have you looked into Oxnard? It may not be the best area but I think it's cheaper, It would get your foot back in the door. In the meantime keep your sanity for your babies' sake. I wish you and yours the best of luck!

I love this thread! We left California for Tennessee three years ago and I can't wait to come back. I see people posting about how they left in the last year or so and love it and will never come back. For the first two and a half years we were here, I swore I would live in Tennessee forever and NEVER live in California again. Then last Christmas it hit me - we are 2,200 miles from family and on our own!
I miss the beaches, the weather, the produce, the REAL Mexican food, the diversity, my family, and the whole way of life.

True, we left Cali because properties were sooo expensive, we couldn't afford to buy the bigger house we needed. I'm so sad for all that is going on, but because of the drop in prices we'll be able to comeback. We hope.
