Moving to IE from Midwest - need help determining where to live! (San Bernardino: to rent, home)

Hello! We are a family of five currently living in Indianapolis, Indiana. We’re looking at a move to the Inland Empire in the next 2-3 months and, since we have never lived there or even visited, we’re seeking advice on which cities to focus our search. Here is some helpful information regarding our priorities:

- Work will be in Ontario. We’re hoping for a commute under 30 minutes.
- This move will last 2 to 3 years, so we are planning to rent a single family home. 4 BR, up to $3,500/month
- Looking for a neighborhood/community containing families with young children, where people are active and know their neighbors, and where it is safe/conducive to play outdoors and ride bikes.
- Seeking a community with resources and activities for families (quality library programming, parks/playgrounds, variety of preschools, good public schools, etc). We have an infant, a preschooler and an elementary schooler.

Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Fontana, and Eastvale. Pretty much in that order IMO.

Temecula and Marietta are way too far from Ontario and the traffic on the 15 is horrible. Lots of great neighborhoods in the Ontario area.

Thank you. Murrieta and Temecula appear to be a longer commute than we are looking for.

Are there any distinguishing characteristics between Upland, Chino/Hills, Rancho Cucamonga and Fontera?

I did find this information on schools which seems to indicate Fontera is not on par with the other three that were mentioned.

Hi, I moved to California four years ago from the south. I was born in the Midwest, and my wife is from there.

If you've never visited, it will be much different. I work in Ontario and live in Redlands. This is an acceptable commute for most Californians. It is only about 25 miles, but it can take an hour on the way home sometimes.

Regardless, Redlands is a great city. We love to ride our bikes, and Redlands has so much variety in cycling. It is also home to the Redlands Classic.

Redlands is more expensive than some areas, especially south Redlands, but it is a neat place to live. It has character which is not the case in much of Southern California.

I am in Temecula. I wouldn't recommend anyone to commute between Temecula and Ontario. That is just suicide by commute. You may want to check out Diamond Bar, Walnut, and Chino Hills. They all have stellar school districts.
