Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if any of you had an opinion about raising a family in Temecula. Is it really thought of as the "wine country" of southern California? What about schools? Crime? How would the commute be to Ontario? Any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks, yes after I posted my questions I searched and found other posts like mine. I should have done that first. My other option for relocating is Minnesota, but the weather is a definite negative factor I am beginning to think. The weather in Temecula is much more like Phoenix which is where I am now.

I dont think it as hot as pheonix...I lived in Riverside all my life and now I live in Virginia. My hubby will be getting out of the military soon, so we will be back soon!! The school systems are not very good in Riverside so I too am considering Temecula!!

While Temecula does get periods of extended heat (summers are hot) its nowhere near Pheonix heat. Plus there's the mountain ridge that allows for the Pacific breeze to blow which makes it quite windy later in the day and quite cool at night. That's the key to the "wine country" weather. Those hot days and cool nights are great for grape growing. You only get that in Temecula. None of the town just north or just south get it.

One of the reasons my wife & I settled on Temecula when we moved from NY in 2004 was that the school systems in Temecula were actually some of the highest rated in the state (even though the state happens to be California). Riverside as a whole doesn't appear to be rated that well, but Temecula is on the high end of the spectrum. With 3 young kids (2 of which are in school w/ the 3rd entering soon) we feel they are actually being pushed quite well and are happy with the teacher they've had so far.

Being from Riverside originally I guess I don't have to sell you on the pros of Southern California weather vs. that of Virginia's? Leave your snow shovel behind and kiss that humidity good bye!!

You'll like it in Temecula, except the commute to Ontario. Not the easiest by any means. I suggest buying a library of books on tape. That way you can brighten your mind while you're parking on the freeway

You will LOVE living in Temecula. The weather is great... warm days and cool nights. There is little or no smog. It is a great place to invite friends for a visit. There is so much to do and see; and you are only a short drive to San Diego and Palm Springs. If you ever get bored... there are always the wineries! The school district is excellent! A great place to raise children.
