![]() Now I know. And since its technically sharing its zip code w/ Fallbrook... then Temecula (now that Redhawk is considered Temecula) borders the SD County border. I still think most of its inhabitants rather identify with San Diego than Los Angeles, but the TV market believes otherwisse. Oh well. |

Everytime I read/hear about the pollution here I laugh out loud. Really. Did anyone of those complaining of the bad air here ever lived in an European capital city? Where you can't see the buildings from across the street in the most part of the hot summer? Where you cannot breath if you walk through downtown at rush hour? When we moved here people were telling me that the air is sooo polluted here that you can't see the mountains in the worst days. The mountains are tens of miles away from the valley itself (if you don't live at their foot of course), while the buildings in major European capital cities are only tens of feets away and all you can see instead is a big cloud of smog. ![]() |

I know the comment about devil worship in Redlands is outlandish, but it's an urban legend that goes way back in this area -- they worship the devil in the orange groves. As urban legends go, it's hard to pinpoint its exact origins, but I suspect the work of Mike Warnke, a self confessed Satanic "high priest" who grew up in the IE, had a lot to do with either a) starting the rumors or b) perpetuating them. This guy was a minor celebrity in evangelical circles in the 70s and 80s until the inevitable expose of the early 90s showed him to be a fraud. Everything else that was said about the area -- smog, drugs, gangs, crime, etc. etc. was spot on .. the devil worship thing ... hmmm... I suppose the tales have sparked some copy cat interest, but I am willing to bet that devil worship is much more prominent in the Bible Belt -- seeing as how one must first believe in the devil before worshipping him. Devil worship in general is kind of passe now .. it's been decades since La Vey started his church and heavy metal music's popularity peaked before acid washed jeans did, but hey .. I'm kind of happy to see the locals still keep the myth alive. I can even see a cheesy horror movie Inland Empire tie-in. Any budding film makers reading this thread?

Are you sure youre not talking about Fontana? With the exception of devil-worshipping... We drove through there recently to look at our old house...seems the whole neighbourhood went to gang bangers, drugs and bars on windows of houses in most of that section now. What a shame. |

But, having said all of that ... we're moving back to the coast now that we can afford it. We're ready for a little more culture, some urban planning, environmental consciousness and, quite frankly, a more educated, professional population. We did make some good friends here but ... we're not into dirt bikes, jacked up trucks and a lot of the stuff that people are into here. Maybe we're just too liberal for this area. I drove by a house that had confederate flags the other day. In a lot of ways, this is the Texas portion of California ... for lack of a better term ... which, ultimately, doesn't work for us. We're also looking forward to radical inventions like paved roads, sidewalks and drainage systems ... something that, unfortunately, has been sorely lacking in the five years we've been living out here in the high desert. While they've made a few improvements, it's mostly patch work. The infrastructure is practically non-existant here. Last edited by sheri257; 06-02-2008 at 08:26 PM. |

In the five years I've lived in the High Desert I haven't encountered devil worshippers or Nazis (unless you consider conservative rednecks Nazis ... LOL). I've had two crime incidents ... some young men tried to steal my car while I slowed down at an intersection in the middle of nowhere in the desert but, I floored the gas and got out of there. And the police did chase a suspect through our yard after stopping a car on a nearby street. Other than that ... I haven't had any problems with crime but, I also have big dogs on my property which, criminals tend to avoid.
I will say the pollution has gotten worse. When we first moved out here the skies were pretty clear but, the air has definitely gotten more hazy in the high desert ... probably with all of the people moving out here and, the fact that there hasn't been much rain in the last couple of years. Once the wind kicks up the dirt ... it does get very hazy now. Last edited by sheri257; 06-04-2008 at 05:33 AM. |

It wasn't to me. My kids are grown and in the wind. To be perfectly honest, I prefer a neighborhood that's kid free as opposed to kid friendly. And god damned if I didn't find one.....

Unless you're on the coast, "kid friendly" contributes to lower crime and higher values. that's a fact - deal with it. |
