Colton
I'm about to work in Colton. I'm not from California, so I know nothing about the area. I really need a safe place to live that is moderately close by to shopping. I was advised not to live in Colton. People have suggested Redlands and Loma Linda, but how is the traffic going to be going towards Colton from those two areas?
And is there a difference between North Loma Linda and south? Also, is the area around Redlands University safe?

Is there a difference between North Loma Linda and south? The north part isn't that nice...
Is the area around Redlands University safe? It's more of a borderline area... east of it is nice whereas west of it is ghetto.

You may want to try Reche Canyon in Colton. Prices are expensive b/c you are coming to $outhern California. You won't get a/t cheap in any town. Try completing a google serach on the 'Trading Post" in Loma Linda and see what you may get in affordable rentals when reviewing the rental ads. Call quickly as places seem to go even before they are listed. And try to find listings on Thursday evening, calling places as early as Friday AM. Good luck.

I like Reche Canyon area where it is more country and Loma Linda area. Redlands, I just moved from and had the same experiance as far as rents. Redlands is the safest and nicest of the this local and you will pay for that whether you live in the nice area or not. Colton is much more affordable but real problems crime wise. Grand Terrace seems friendlier by far then Cooley Ranch which feels very tense racially. Both seem pretty safe. I am finding it is a good time to rent homes so to rent in one of these places until you see where you want would be wonderful berfore next summer when the housing prices will really be down.

Driving through Reche Canyon at times can be a little scary. Especially during peak hours when people get off work.

The Reche Canyon and Cooley Ranch areas of Colton are very nice. Grand Terrace is also very close as well. If you will be working in Loma Linda these three areas would work well for you.
take care, ana
