But really, I didn't say the facilities themselves clean the air... the facilities mitigate the waste, and as a result reduces the after effects of sitting manure (since they aren't sitting in the fields but cleaned up and taken by the IEUA)...

As a result... there is better air quality as shown by their reports and study. Sure you guys can laugh, but the facilities are there, and that is what they do.

What does clean the air in the region are all the trees in the Prado Regional Dam area... or the Prado wetlands:

OCWD Online - Prado Wetland (http://www.ocwd.org/_html/prado.htm - broken link)

Pretty awesome site when driving down Hwy 71.... and this area should never really be built out by development in the future since it's in a Dam inundation zone... So, beautiful natural environment settings forever Try to find a scene like that in the middle of LA.

Better air quality compared to what? The IE has some of the worst air quality imaginable. You can't even see the mountains a lot of the time.

I lived out here for many years and I still dont like it. I would much rather be in Irvine or Mission Viejo but hey I am hear because 1)its cheaper 2) my wifes entire family resides here, you know the story.

But if I could $$$ i would be in OC in heartbeat. Call me a snob.

Your right, the IE doesn't have the best air quality in the region. But, the IE is huge and encompasses a huge area. The western parts of the IE, especially south western IE, Chino Valley, actually has the best air quality in the IE. This is mainly because of the Hills/Mountains (Chino Hills State Park) blocking the smog and funneling it through the valleys (60, 10, 91 freeways through fairs)... and filters from the Prado Wetlands... and green river golf course.

If you look at the maximum ozone and particulate matter during the day... the Chino Valley isn't really in the danger zone

http://www.epa.gov/airnow/2008/20080911/8p-ca.gif (broken link)

Same as rest of LA.
http://www.epa.gov/airnow/2008/20080911/pm25/pm25-24p-ca.gif (broken link)

and if you look at the AQMD current statuses, the Chino Valley is in the green.
Air Quality Maps

Thanks to the natural mountain formations, wetlands, and funneling... the Chino Valley is more protected from the smog from LA/OC blowing in.

But, your right... generally speaking... the IE itself doesn't have the best air quality... but so doesn't Fresno, Bakersfield, and the Sacramento area. As you can see, I did a ton of research before deciding to move and start my family out here.

Yes, the $$$ issue ... you can only get the best you can get with the money you got. Win the lotto.... or land an executive job... or better yet... get over your head? then maybe move.... otherwise... IMO, the Chino Valley is one of the best areas (bang for buck) in the IE.

And, some people will always hate where ever they live... even if they live in Hawaii.

Oh... btw.... your a snob

Yeah ... I hear you. We moved from OC out to the IE also. I'm not saying that the IE is all that bad either. It's just when people sugar coat it ... it's pretty ridiculous.

Nevertheless ... we only lived there because it was cheap. But hey it got me through school and, eventually, where we wanted to live. So for that I'm grateful.

Chuck: do you do public relations for a living? Because only a PR man would put this rosy a spin on the situation.

Sorry but when the smog is so thick you can't see the mountains ... the air quality is BAD ... period.

I couldn't see the mountains when I lived across the bay toward Santa Monica.... so sure... the air is bad in LA... PERIOD
Nothing is Black and White. The Air quality in LA has drastically improved over the last 35 years. Likewise, that would improve the Air Quality in the IE.
50th Anniversary of Smog War

Use a topographic map (google maps has one). If you look at it, you'll see what I mean by funneling. Hence why you can't see the mountains in the IE... since the smog is blowing across from LA over the 60,10,210 funnel. In Chino Hills and the Chino Valley you can see this smog blow across and into San Bernardino/Riverside and off down the 60 and 10.

I just give credit to what these people have done. And No, of course the Air Quality isn't as good as say in Yellowstone park or Washington, Oregon... but it's been getting better year by year.

And no, I'm not in public relations. But, I do my research... and base my opinion on research and analysis so I back what I say up. If the authorities and agencies out here weren't doing anything to mitigate problem areas ... I would probably be one of the first to complain.

Where in the IE did you live? From what I recall it was in the high desert?

Just as a side note... it's not just my opinion that the Preserve is a nice place to live. A few weeks ago, the Lewis Group invited people from my community - 8 households (ranging from people who have lived here since the beginning to people who recently moved in) to a focus group to talk about their likes and dislikes about the Preserve and the community (I was VERY surprised. Randall Lewis (owner) showed up to listen to US!!). All of them said that they liked it here. Basically the general opinion was that we lived in our own private "resort" and that it had good "value" compared to what is found elsewhere.

Actually, a few of them were glad that the housing market has slowed down. They like the slower pace of growth, and the fact that open space conversion has slowed down. As you can tell, I on the other hand would like more of the Preserve to be built out... but maintain the natural trails and walkways, etc. Anyhow... just a note that it's not just me and MaltsnHops and other Preserve Residents on this board who seems to like it here.

Chuck

The Preserve IS nice but to say it's a resort is a bit over the top for me. The residents must not vacation much! As far as value, maybe now with lower and declining prices. But what about 3 years ago when they opened? Not much of a value. Why do you think I didnt buy when I popped into the sales office in 2005? overpriced and the HOAs plus clubhouse fee was ridiculous for me. You even mentioned you envied those that purchased now for less and getting more square footage.
