Default Rancho Cucamonga

I am interested in finding out more abut that area. I am not sure where I can find threads about it as I don't know what county it is in? I drove through it and really liked the area. What is the average price of a home out there, and what is the average cost of rent? It seems to look like a big valley so I am also wondering about the job outlook. I am a bartender and a hairstylist.

Please do a search before you post a thread of the exact same topic. A RC thread's already been started long ago:

Thank you for the link and just so you don't think I am a total slacker, I did do a search for Rancho Cucamonga but for some reason that thread did not pop up.

Don't know why.

Default Rancho!

Rancho Cucamonga is a pretty good city all around. Compared to the other cities its almost heaven, Fontana is way worse and Upland isn't much better. The school districts here are a bit over crowded. The schools also are apparently very bad, the policy of some schools is to get more students = better scores. But they take in students from L.A., Fontana, SB. The rejects pretty much. As for shopping, its pretty good, there are many mini-shopping centers with Blockbusters,a fast-food place and a grocery store. Another thing about Rancho is that it has the most percentage of Whites, 63% compared to Fontana's 75% hispanic. As for crime, its not bad. Rancho consists of 3 towns, Alta Loma, Cucamonga, and Etiwanda. Alta Loma is the racially diverse part of Rancho located in the middle part part of the city. The Alta Loma School District is average in test scores. Alta Loma is the Low income-Middle-High income neighborhood, so you will see many hispanics/blacks/asians. For crime in Alta Loma its average. There has been 20 homicides in the city from the 1970's. But still, Alta Loma has its problems in the southern part, you will hear many helicopters fly around wherever you live in AL. Next is Cucamonga, this is the very SOUTHERN part of Rancho, it is also the poorest. The gangs of Rancho reside in this small community. It is pre-dominatly hispanic and the Rancho Cucamonga school district is the worst. Many people have been shot here and the gangs here have been here since the 50's. If you are African-American you should NOT live here, the gangs here are known to be racist. Last is Etiwanda, Etiwanda is by far the richest part of Rancho, consisting of High-End homes and people. There are NO gangs here, Nada! The crime here is VERY low. The police will send a helicopter to just about anything... Car-jacking, Stick-ups, etc. The Etiwanda School district is lesser than Alta Loma, as reject students from Ontario/Upland go here and cause even more problems. The majority of the neighborhood is white, leading with hispanics, then blacks.

Sorry for this being so long!!

Check out North Fontana and North Ontario as well...contrary to the above poster *racist* there are nice neighborhoods here as well. Actually they are literally right across the street from R.C. The difference is the price. I work in 4th St. and Archibald in Ontario, right now (leaving that job...I digress). However, the prices shoot up like 20-30k across the street. A home 2 miles from R.C. in Sierra Lakes Fontana will cost 200-300k...good luck finding the same price in R.C. Same mountain views, same tract style, same crime level, same income levels.

Rancho Cucamonga is a nice town. But, yes it consists of several sections- Alta Loma (the northwestern part), Cucamonga (central part), Etiwanda (eastern part). Cucamonga is the oldest part. My parents moved to Rancho Cucamonga 4 years ago. They moved into a brand new community cul-de-sac neighborhood, but surrounded by an older neighborhood. The older neighborhood is an eyesore. People in that neighborhood don't take care of lawns, the homes look dated and have junk laying all around. I grew up in Upland. I would not compare Upland to Fontana. Upland is much nicer- especially the northern part of Upland- where I grew up. I felt quite safe there. As for the schools, I can't speak of the schools, since I never went to school in Rancho Cucamonga. But, somehow, I feel they have left something to be desired for with quite a few exceptions. Growing up, I attended schools in nearby Upland and Claremont, which I felt were quite decent. I once attended a now defunct, private school in Pomona.

Overall, I do like Rancho Cucamonga and feel relatively safe around my parent's neighborhood. Rancho Cucamonga is much nicer than almost the rest of the Inland Empire. It seems more akin to Orange County (where I live now-specifically in Irvine) They have nice shopping-largely "big box" store, has a nice outdoors shopping area- Victoria Gardens, nice chain restaurants with some nice mom and pop places.

The downside is that Rancho Cucamonga is inland, so it can get quite hot in the summer. But, at least it is a dry heat not a humid heat and sometimes it can get smoggy because it is on the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. But, Rancho Cucamonga is within an hour's drive (without major heavy duty traffic) of Los Angeles, within an hour of many parts of Orange County and the beaches.

As for jobs- there are some white collar jobs, but I think many people commute someplace else for work. I think the city is trying to make an effort to attract more white collar jobs. Which I think that would be nice if they did attract more white collar jobs, especially in my field. Then, perhaps, I may consider moving there. There are quite a few distribution centers- drive along Millikan Avenue south of Foothill Boulevard and you will see them. Of course, there are plenty of retail jobs in Rancho Cucamonga. Then the other jobs would be for the school district, for the city, for Chaffey College.

With this housing market, prices of homes have dropped. My parents went to an open house in their neighborhood and shocked to find that the seller of the house (same exact floor plan as my parents place) on this 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom 2,300 square foot house was listing the house for $460,000 which is around the amount my parents bought their house (brand new) in 2004. Rent in Rancho Cucamonga tends to be higher than surrounding cities of the Inland Empire just because Rancho Cucamonga is much nicer than most parts of the Inland Empire. Sorry, can't give you an exact figure since I've never rented in Rancho Cucamonga (but I've been told of the higher rent prices). Based on the information you have provide, I do think you will enjoy Rancho Cucamonga.

5 truly active gangs in a city of less than 200K people?!?!?! Am I totally naive, or does that seem like a lot?
