Default Where to rent? Best cities near March.

Hello, I have searched all of the previous messages and have such mixed feelings about our upcoming move to the Riverside area. My husband will be working at March Air Base and I am in the fitness industry. We will be coming from the Midwest so our knowledge is very limited on the Riverside area. We have no children and are in our late 20's, early 30's. We want to rent for a year or so until we figure out where we want to possibly buy. Originally I looked into the Moreno Valley area as that is close to the base, but I have read many negative things about some of the rentals and that area in general. I have heard good things about Temecula from previous posts, but is renting there a good option? We both love the outdoors and are very active people, and of course safety is a concern.

Traffic on the 15 and 215 SUCKS!!! Try the Reserve...it's in Moreno Valley Ranch. It's down the street from Lake Perris and right on the hillside. Also located in a golf community. It's really safe. A lot of RCC students live there. My friends that lived there had no complaints. Also look into Broadstone Rancho Belago, Broadstone Overlook, Laselle Place, Tuscany Hills, Stonegate at Towngate, Villas at Towngate, and Arbor Apartments. These are all nice communities.

If it were me, I'd check out the Temecula, Murrieta or Menifee areas. Yes, the traffic can be bad on the 215...I drove it for many years from Menifee to Moreno Valley each day to work...but, it's a trade off...with your concerns, if you don't mind the drive, then consider going south!! Also, the air is cleaner out this way. I have family living in Moreno Valley and I know they wouldn't recommend it either! Don't get me wrong...there are many, many wonderful people there...but, would I ever live there again...NO!!!

Actually the air is about the same. It's really not a bad town, Moreno Valley. Menifee is nice, but nothing special. I mean if I had the choice of moving between Menifee and the place I work...I'd pick the place I work. I'd rather not deal with the traffic to go to the same suburban tracts. 92557 and 92555 have roughly the same demographics as Menifee. Same suburban tracts, same master planned communities, same large apartment complexes, same mountians even. The differences are slight depending on the neighborhood. Edgemont and central Moreno Valley is not a desirable place. Sunnymead Ranch and Rancho Belago are nice places that resemble the nicest regions of the Inland Empire (4,000sq ft homes on 1/2 acre lots are typically not found in lower socio-economic regions for example). So I mean, for the same quality of life, you might as well save gas money and spend more time with your family. If you worked in Menifee, I would suggest live in Menifee...If there are nice areas close to your job, pick those areas. It makes more sense.

I don't agree with you that the air is about the same...I'd drive from MoVal on many a day in the summer going towards Menifee on the 215 and as soon as I went past Highway 74, the sky would become blue, I could see Idyllwild off towards the east, and I couldn't even see Box Springs Mt. while I was in MoVal!!

I agree that there are many nice developments in MoVal now...that's true. BUT, as you said...the Edgemont area and central MoVal are not "desirable places"...my point is, you still have to shop in the same stores with those who live in these areas (92553).

California has many problems that are unique to this area, so someone coming from the midwest would be in total culture shock moving to MoVal I think...but that is just my opinion...obviously not shared by all.

Menifee air pollution index is 106% of the nations. Moreno Valley is also at 106%. Both have the same air quality quantatively speaking. I am looking at the Ortega Mountains from my house as I type. They are about 40 miles away. I also see the San Bernardino range right now, the San G range, and the Temescal Valley from my patio.

Plus, I shop at Towngate, StoneRidge Towne Centre, Moreno Beach Plaza, and Lakeside Plaza. With the exception of Towngate (which is right across the street from 92557 in a master planned community) the rest are in 92557 and 92555. I never shop in central Moreno Valley or Edgemont. Yeah you might shop with some lower socio-economic people at the mall, but they aren't bothering me. The average family incomes are actually comparable. 92555 is roughly 80k, 92557 is about 70-75K, and Menifee is about 75-80k. The city of Moreno Valley itself is about 67k, making it a middle class city. A 10 mile radius from the mall has an average family income of 72-75k. So I mean, it's pretty comparable. It just depends on the neighborhood. I just think that many people overlook the demographics of Moreno Valley and focus on the heuristics of what they heard. Personally, I can't wait to leave since I love the ocean. But, it's still better than many places.

You know 'guy', you could do advertisements for MoVal...you aren't a realtor are you? Just kidding!! I know you can see all over right now...the air quality this time of year is better...the summer months are what I was talking about...the brown smog coming up from Riverside is sometimes so thick in the summer, you could cut it with a knife!

Hey, I don't blame you for wanting to move to the beach...doesn't everyone? I know that's where I'd go if I could! I lived in MoVal for many, many, many years...moved there from OC. So I saw all the changes and saw it go from a sleepy little community to what it is today...not somewhere I'd choose to live today! Especially if I was coming from the midwest.

Hi.

My husband will be working at March starting in December. We were out there at the beginning of October to look for a rental. We stayed on base in one of the houses which was inexpensive and roomy.

We found a house to rent in Menifee. We looked in Riverside, Wildomer, Sun City and Menifee. We decided on a house just north of Newport Road, west of 215. We chose that location because of the schools and neighberhood.

I don't know a lot about the area since we haven't moved yet but feel free to email me if you have any questions. I had done about 6 months of research on the areas surrounding March. I can also recommend a realtor to help you find a rental.

Take care.
