You can leave the IE if you want to. I'll stay a little while longer...

I grew up in Silverlake. Yes, the prices have skyrocketed and houses are well maintained, but the crime is still there. The neighbor who moved in next door to my mom's old house had his wheels stolen from his car IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE (the car was on blocks). Last year the father of a local politician was killed in his house. It remains unsolved.

Parts of the IE are sketchy, and parts of it are extremely nice with excellent schools, just like parts of LA County as well as OC.

Murietta & Temecula are in no danger of becoming ghettos; it's very expensive to live there for starters and are both too far from LA to sink to the level of inner city LA in spite of numerous policies by the liberals in DC and Sacramento and their ongoing 'war on the suburbs'.

Why not use OC's income estimates from the 1930s?

Very expensive compared to what? I was just looking online at houses in Murrieta. You can rent a big 3-4 bedroom house in Murrieta for cheaper than a little 2 bedroom apartment in most of OC. It's quite cheap there compared to OC and LA.

Let me say at the outset that I do not wish for Temecula and Murrieta to become ghettos. Nor do I think there is any danger for a while.

I agree that both DC and Sacramento are engaged in an ongoing war on the suburbs.

As for being expensive to live there, however, aside from a few areas in Temecula with estate homes, that is not true.

I think that certain towns have a culture on it's own. In other words, if you live in Temecula, you won't write graphiti written on the walls or trash on the ground. That's a town where people take pride in keeping their city decent. If you live in another town just 20 miles north, and I will not say it's name, you get the complete opposite. I'm just saying, and that's what amazing me about cultures of different town and the way people behave differently in those towns.

I realize that this has been three years since the very last reply on this thread, but I would like to chime in real quick.

How about the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs, Indio, Cathedral City, etc.)? Does anyone here think or know that this area of Riverside County is also, in any way, experiencing a following of LA County's history as well?

Speaking from experience (maybe), some people avoid certain areas of the CV such as Desert Hot Springs, Indio, Coachella, and, to a lesser extent, Thousand Palms, Cathedral City, parts of Palm Springs (more specifically, the northern and eastern sections), and North Palm Springs.
