Default La Quinta Cove California

I currently live in unaffordable Orange County and would like to buy a house in La Quinta Cove. Please inform me of the negatives and positives.

Some areas of the Cove are nice but overall the Cove has a bad rep. There is more crime in the Cove than anywhere else in La Quinta. The Cove is also further away from shopping and the freeway than say, North La Quinta.

Default The cove

I picked the Cove for the following reasons: Housing prices, close to hiking , great launch area for training (bicycle road racer), no HOA'S, not a cookie cutter neighborhood. I noticed there is an element there that maybe a nuisance. I am single so I figure I could deal with the less desirable area of La Quinta. I will be on a fixed small income and could not afford to buy a home in north La Quinta. What do you think?

Not all areas of the Cove are bad. In fact, some of it is quite beautiful. But you will have that heat coming off the chocolate mountains because they will basically be in your yard. But, on the other hand, it's hot everywhere here during summer. Just be sure to check the Desert Sun every day and you will get a feel for which areas of the Cove to avoid.

I like being far from the fwy and the shops are close enough for me. I am justed a bit nervous regarding the neighbors. Is it safer than DHS? I do not drive much mostly cycle and I thought the cove we be a good place to live for a cyclist. Am I wrong?

You do not .... repeat ..... DO NOT want to live in DHS. You are going to be so much safer in the Cove riding your bike.

Twinkle Toes, you seem to be an expert in this area. Worst case scenario, what are the hottest and most ubearable months? I plan on living in Mammoth when it gets too hot for me and my dog and returning when it cools down. My friend does this but he lives in a gated community in Indio and has been burglarized four times in the last two years.

You and DHS. I am laughing because I saw what you wrote about it earlier. I have no desire to live over there and be in fear for my life. The cove looked about the best I could do for the price.Coming from Orange County, Newport area , the neighbors in the cove really looked a little rough around the edges to me. I saw a house with corn being grown in the front yard and a dude walking 10 dogs that were crapping all over the place. Oh well , maybe the vibe will be more relaxed in the cove, a lot of angry people in Orange County.

As far as gated communities go, they give some people a false sense of security. You still have to be as diligent about your safety and personal belongings as though you weren't in a gated community. But a gated does have its advantages. It will be hot here from about May through October. The hottest months being July through September. I actually live in La Quinta. I used to live in Palm Desert. I like both areas, although electricity is less expensive in La Quinta because we have IID rather than Edison.
