I'm in my own little world here in the flats South of the freeway... only one next door neighbor, an old farm house, 2 acres and lots of fruit trees and grapes.

Ah. I didn't know it had gone downhill. Too bad. Use to visit people at a chicken ranch on Jurupa west of Sierra. They're long gone too ...

So then, what portions of Fontana should I be looking into? Like I said I have two young children and their safety is my main concern. We currently live out of state in a very small town, so any of these areas will be an adjustment for us, I would like to make the transition as easy as possible.

Even with that, Fontana's crime index is still lower than the national average (277 vs 321).

North Fontana, which is North of Foothill Blvd all the way to the mountains.

As to Redlands, if you have money, the center of town is the historical area, and a lot of families live there. It's a bit more expensive, but I see a lot of people out walking with their dogs and kids, their whole families, even after dark. So it's a relatively safe area if you can afford to live in that part of town. A lot of the homes are older ones, so it's a more established area. There are grocery stores in the area, and downtown is within walking distance of the historical area.

Thanks everyone for the input on what areas I should look into. Since we don't know yet if we will be moving or if so how long my husband will be working at the Fontana office, we will be renting. Anyone know how much we can expect to pay rent wise in one of the "safer" areas? 2 or 3 bedroom, not sure if many houses are available for rent or if it is mostly condos? I looked up some of the rentals on Craigslist and on Inland Valley Daily Bulletin and it is hard to tell since the range is anywhere from $900 to $2500 and up.....and since I don't know the streets I am not sure if they are in the right neighborhoods. We don't need anything big or elaborate....small is fine, more worried about safety and family oriented. Any guesstimations on a good price would be wonderful so we can avoid anything under or above and have realistic expectations.....Thanks!
Oh forgot to mention on any of the surrounding areas of Redlands, Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, Northern Fontana.....ect. Within a 30-45 minute commute from Fontana is what we are looking for.

Give me the addresses of some of the ones that piqued your interest and I'll tell you what kind of neighborhood to expect. You can do it via DM if you wish.

There are very few parts of Redlands that I wouldn't feel comfortable after dark.
Every city has its bad parts. Heck, there was a fatal shooting 3 a few blocks away from me last week and I live in one of the nicest parts of Los Angeles.
