Default about Hemet

I think it's ugly overall. Not to say that it doesn't have some charm .. but very little. I would not not buy a house in Hemet. I'd only live there if I had to because of a near by job or for some other good reason. I was there a couple of weekends ago, visiting someone, and I went to Target (or it might have been Walmart) because I wanted to buy a Thomas Guide (I did not think they have it buy my boyfriend wanted to see if they did..and they didn't) and there were drugy-sorts of people all around and miserable looking people. Someone on this site (you'll see responses to your same question- review the past responses/questions on your same questions).. well there were all terrible reviews. One person said that they are letting prison inmates out and dumping them in Hemet. I was looking to buy a house and I have a small budget and so I looked in Hemet. The houses for 330K were so boring and ordinary... all beige and all the same. When you open the door everyone has the same house. Not many trees nor and the mountains seem very far. It's drab. Go see for yourself if you haven't already. I dont' mean to offend anyone it's just what I saw. Perhaps your see a part of it that I didn't see.. but overall it's plain

Safe enough if you are a scientologist.

I agree with the other posters...and Hemet is HOT and DUSTY in the summer. There are lots of new developments going in though. Prices cheaper than Temecula.

Default Don't Bother with Hemet and San Jacinto

I've lived in Hemet for 25 years. If we didn't have child custody garbage with my husbands ex we would be long gone. Last month we had 3 phone calls from Jr. High and High School Principals telling us about 3 separate kidnapping attempts in the Valley. Hemet and San Jacinto are the joint armpits of Riverside county. The California Parole Board has decided in its infinite wisdom to parole every pedophile/drug addict/gangbanger in California to our valley due to the low rents. Check the megan's law website for yourself. Also, Section 8 Housing is alive and well in our valley. The rule for parolee's released to Hemet/San jacinto is that they can't leave the city limits unless they are going to the rehab/half way facility in neighboring Winchester. So they have permission to visit there but are not made to stay in the program. So it doesn't help at all.
As far as housing prices go in our valley (And it is a valley because it takes 45 minutes just to get to any of the freeways to go anywhere else) they are totally insane. In 5 years my 4 bd 2 ba house has gone from 92K to 312K. So if I sell I still can't upgrade to anything comprable for less than 450K. There is nothing for the teenagers to do except be bored, do drugs, or cause trouble. It really is a shame. We all do our shopping out of town. We have a small I mean mall but its not much.
We have our very own gang taskforce. Taggers run rampant here. We have tagging on everything ,including real estate signs in peoples front yards. A Kid was in a hit and run drove their car up on the curb in front of my house dumped it there and took off running. We don't live in the ghetto either. The schools are over crowded. No lockers, My 12 year old is hauling 30lbs of books to school everyday. My honor roll student didn't get a scholarship from Hemet High because those are given to the Doctors kids that can afford to send their kids to Yale for summer school. In every small town you have small town politics our town is the old boys network at its best. The Doctors and Lawyers rule here. The hospital system sucks here as well. The doctors here are literally only practicing. My mother in law broke her leg, an orthopedic surgeon reset it when the cast came off her foot was facing to the right and her knee was facing to the left. When I complained I was told that at 70 years old she was old anyway and as long as she could stand on it he didn't care. Taxes hah! If a bond measure doesn't pass one year they just put it back on the ballet again the next year. Miracle upon miracle it always passes the second time.

Nowhere is safe, unless maybe you live on an island in the middle of the ocean. Even then, a tsunami can come along and wipe you out.

Your best bet in finding out about Hemet would be to go there in person, check out neighborhoods, etc. Hemet is a quaint little town, growing somewhat. Sure there is crime there, but want more crime? Go to east L.A. I wonder what people have to say about that place.
Hemet may be dry and dusty in the summer, but it has some unique older homes and it has a charm to it.
I last visited the Hemet/San Jacinto area in late 2005 and it looks like it was caught in a time warp. Nothing much has changed from when we left in 1994. Except for more shopping and more homes. And the reservoir was finally built. Make up your own mind about Hemet. Don't let anyone else do it for you.
There seems to be alot of negative information on this site, so you will have to weed through it and figure it out. Good luck in your search.

Hemet is scary. Hemet has a lot of old run down areas and a lot of transent people. Try Temecula which is about 20 miles from Hemet and much nicer. Temecula has nice homes, great schools and shopping. You will love it.

I know this thread is old BUT FOR GOD'S SAKE DO NOT MOVE TO HEMET. Oops, I mean don't listen to all of us posters, go found out for yourself. OR, you could save yourself some time and listen to us!
I worked in Hemet for 1 year. I lived in Murrieta and Temecula. Hemet is a giant armpit. Or Butthole. Find a negative body part, contrast and compare.
#1. First of all, I don't see how any human being makes it through the summer there without dying of heat stroke.
#2. There are small pockets of decent neighborhoods. The rest is either Crystal Meth City or Geriatric Trailer Parks.
#3. You are, at the very least, 30-40 minutes to Somewhere Nice, in any given direction.
#4. Aesthetically, Hemet is horribly ugly. Cinderella's stepsister after the disfiguring car wreck ugly.
#5. About 30% of Hemet's population is sub-society. By that I mean tweakers, aka speed freaks. Gang members. Druggies. Child molestors. Once and future prisoners basically. The other 30% are elderly, which makes driving around town fun. The other 30% are normal people trying to deal with living in Hemet.
Can I find ANYTHING good to say about Hemet? Ummmm.....it's at the base of San Jacinto Mountain, which is a beautiful mountain.
Never mind, don't listen to me! Check it out for yourself....LMAO. ]
Or take if from those of us who know personally. Yuck!

My dad and step-mom retired to Hemet 10 years ago. They bought a bank repo for cheap. The house has a beautiful view of the mountains, they live right by an orange grove. He has every type of fruit tree you can think of, and his property is a luscious jungle of tropical plants. Seems like an okay place to me. It definitely has a small town rural feel. Hemet is not ugly in my opinion, now downtown LA, THAT'S UGLY! My dad receive sub-par medical attention when he was sick, we were not impressed with the hospital there.
