We have always had the impression that Beaumont was a very quiet city that did not have a lot of crime or gangs. However when we went to take a look at a house that we are interested in the neighbor seemed shady, and in talking with my brother he had also went out to look at a different house in that same area and said the had the same experience. So I wonder is there certain areas as in San Bernardino that you know you should steer clear from in Beaumont?

Hi Marti, I am not sure where you were looking in Beaumont? There are many nice new homes being built in the area that are not at all shady. Check out Fairway Canyon and Tournament Hills Homes There are fantastic deals to be had!

I probably was to harsh
Most of my impressions of Beaumont are a bit dated now that I think of it. It has been a couple of years since I have been there, but I used to drive through it going from the South Bay to Palm Springs and back.
Normally, Beaumont is a place to get gasoline for me, and little else. However, since I have been looking for real estate since the early 1990's, I did drive around it a bit. What I remembered of it was a lot of closed businesses, delapidated homes, and the fact that on three separate occasions, prostitutes have attempted to get me to "date" them, one of those occasions was on a residential street in broad daylight, so you can see why I have a low opinion of the place.
That there are new developments in the area, is a good thing, next time I am going by, I will give it another look and see if I cannot upgrade my opinion of it in keeping with the times.
Thanks for responding, always happy to think better of places than worse of them. Good luck.

Beaumont isn't bad, but considering you're moving from the OC you might be suprised at the amount of white trash there.

I love Beaumont and think it is a great place to live. I grew up in Beaumont. Moved out there in 1991. Moved to Redlands in 2006 and then move to San Bernardino in 2008. My husband and I just bought a house and are moving back to Beaumont. It is a small town but is growing rapidly. Here is a link that may help you understand what is going on in the city http://www.ci.beaumont.ca.us/DocumentView.aspx?DID=1153

Not sure about the grocery store near Tournament hills.
They were planning on building a Victoria Gardens complex out there but I just recently talked to a police officer that works for the city and he said the builder has pulled out because of the state of the economy.
From what I was told by this same police officer they are actually going to build the CostCo in Beaumont.
Also I haven't heard of anything about a Metro Link.

Beaumont isnt too bad. Checkout the houses near the new junior high & high school. The homes on & off cougar way are nice. Ill be in beaumont/banning later today. If you like pizza/italian food stay away from Russos. They are way over priced & the food is not that great. The portions are small. I live in yucaipa & the shopping here is expensive compared to beaumont cause you have walmart,kmart,food4less,home depot, etc in nearby banning off highland springs. Summers are hot/dry & winters are cool/windy. No place is perfect & the Beaumont police are tough & do a good job.

Remember that kidnap and murder case that made headlines a few years ago? It happened in Beaumont. I actually believe they caught the guy in Idaho and he's getting the death penalty. (can anyone confirm this?)

Yes. His name was Anthony Martinez and it happened in 1997. It also happened just a few blocks away from my house. Here is an article http://www.pe.com/localnews/inland/s...4.4769ff4.html
