Thinking of moving to Beaumont, thoughts?
Hey all.. I am new.. my family is thinking of relocating to Beaumont from the overpriced OC... we are going to rent a nice house out there in a good area but still would like to hear first hand accounts of how it is.. I understand it is a "small" town.. but crime? Things to do??? good place to raise kids??
Thanks!

Where is work?
If you work in OC, do you really want to spend the extra 1+ hours (most often more) each way to work on the road?
I don't have much first hand experience on Beaumont, however, it has always seemed decent enough, and has grown quite a bit over the past few years.
It is small, but by now probably has the flavor of any other IE city. Being in Beaumont, obviously you'd be closer to the San Bernardino/San Jacinto Mountains if you are into that, and Palm Springs is just beyond the San Gorgonio Pass.
If you work closer to your current home in OC, I would strongly reconsider Beaumont, your life will quickly turn to hell if you would have to commute to/from Beaumont daily.
Otherwise, if you don't need to commute, heck, go for it.

Hi! I live right next door to Beaumont and I personally wouldn't like to live there. My parents looked for a house to rent over there when we first came back to Cali and they didn't like it.
It is a small town (I just read on they're city website that they have a population of about 30,000) and it's just that much farther away from Redlands and San Bernardino where all the stores, restaurants and amenities are. I think they're going to build a Target where the Christmas tree farm is sometime in the future (they've been saying that since I moved here but I don't see any construction yet). The major chain stores (like wal mart, kohls, best buy, etc.) that they do have over there are pretty new because they're building it up somewhat now in this shopping center area.
I can understand wanting to leave a pricey are to go somewhere more affordable. But personally I don't think moving anywhere in the Inland Empire would have low crime (or be safe at all) because it's pretty bad here (being it's so much cheaper then everywhere else and so close to San Bernardino).
I have a friend that lives out in Beaumont and her whole family hates it. She moved there when she went to the 8th grade and went to Mountain View middle school and she said that a group of Mexican girls tried to start a fight with her and she didn't make any friends. So her parents put her in a private school in Redlands (the kids that went there were from Redlands, Beaumont and Banning) and she got into a lot of trouble with them (but there's going to be bad kids everywhere of course). There's basically nothing to do and all I see is that the kids that live there party hard. They all like jeeping, bmx and riding dirt bikes and stuff out there as hobbies.
If you don't mind commuting so far to go to work to lower your expenses in O.C. why don't you try looking at places to rent in Palm Desert/Palm Springs? You could try it out. I just don't know how expensive or what not it is. I love it there. I'd love to live out there but I really just want to get out of this state all together. It has a little more life and history there and isn't like being stranded in the boonies in Beaumont. If it's cheaper than where you are now you might as well live somewhere nicer if you don't mind having a commute anyways. It's about a half an hour drive more from Beaumont to Palm Springs.
Check out this website on Beaumont facts and it answers all of your questions and then some.

My inlaws moved from OC to Beaumont and they are very happy there. No kids, but the air is clean which you can't say for most of the ie, and I haven't heard any complaints about crime. You should be able to check the stats. If you like Mexican food there is a wonderful family owned restraunt there which we went to three times (my request) when I was visiting.
If you don't have the drive problem, its one of the areas I'd want to live in the ie should I want to live in California again.
The weather is colder than inland OC. It is very windy. They got a light snow this last month. And of course it gets hot in the summer. But if you want to see the view from my families porch, check out my photos and one is labeled as from there. I was looking for a picture from socal with blue sky and this was the only one I could find.
I would take a drive out there and look around, check distances to Banning and the other towns.
Compared to the western parts of the ie, its exceptional. I was in Riverside. LOL when someone refers to Beaumont as a small town what is Cushing with its around 10k?

Hey Nightbird, you don't happen to know the name of the Mexican Restaurant do you? I live in San Jacinto and occasionally drive through Beaumont when I go to Oak Glen. I'm always looking for a good place to stop and have lunch or dinner.

Beaumont questions
We just bought in Beaumont but we had some questions. Does anyone know if they are still planning:
• To build a Grocery Store near Tournament Hills?
• I have heard that someone may be building a shopping complex like Victoria Gardens?
• I have heard that a CostCo might be built down the road in Yucaipa?
• Does anyone know if they are ever planning on having MetroLink train service in the city?

Beaumont questions
I live in Beaumont - tournament hills where my husband and I feel we live under a dictatorship with the HOA! I do not recommend it unless you want to be dictated to as to how to live your life in your home and paying outrageous prices as well! I am very disappointed in the community and can't wait til the housing market starts to move again, we're out of there!

IT IS WINDY....nobody understands when I say WIND. I have to block open my garage door with a 2X4 before I drive in or out--the wind blows it closed. The wind blew the leaves off of the bouganvilla (spelling), the plant died. The wind blew a dipsy dumpter over a 4' wall!
WINDY!!!!!!

Hummm well we knew about the HOA and do not mind. Also so far I think the money they have been collecting is being spent on the community? The lake amenity seems well taken care of and I noticed they put in spikes to keep people from driving in the wrong way.
HOA's done right can be a very good thing or not. But I like very much that I have not seen any day glow painted houses or pink lawn flamingos. We so far have not had any problems with HOA rules as we did get a chance to read the tome of rules before we purchased.
