Here is a great link with pictures of many of the charming, diverse and beautiful neighborhoods of Riverside.

This sounds like a real estate list. Please ask questions and look at stats on each area. There are some areas there which look fine from the pictures but are not safe, or not anymore. And with the unemployment so high (not even considering that its much higher than the figures) look for this to become a bigger problem.

Point being when you see pictures of a neighborhood or area it may look fine. But bad areas do not look as bad in California as they do in other places. Always, always check further and think carefully, especially if you have kids.

edit: Beware of the bright blue skies. I don't recall seeing the really bright blues ever until I moved here to OK. In the summer and fall you'll get grey goopy gunk. These are the spiffy parts of Riverside but the smog doesn't care. Do not come to look at homes in February, come in August when the heat and smog are there to see what its like most of the year.

This is no real estate list it is a posting from a website dedicated to all things Riverside. I assure you every neighborhood shown in the photos (with perhaps the slight exception being the first one shown, colony heights, which is located near downtown Riverside, but this neighborhood has itself seen rejuvenation as evidenced by the beautiful homes that fill its landscape) is not only safe but also a great place to call home. These are some of the most high end neighborhoods in the region, not some sort of facade of slum as you implied. You warning for families with children is also unwarranted for the neighborhoods shown would be a fine place to raise a child. With most areas being within the King and Poly school zones the children will have access to the best public education around.

Unemployment has not "run rampant" as you purpose. Yes everywhere in California is not safe from foreclosures and the high end markets are no exception. However as someone who has first hand knowledge and experience living in and around these neighborhoods, with the exception or colony heights, these areas are not only safe but offer a great quality of life for those lucky enough to live there. Predispositions of a image that people have of Riverside does not apply to the entire city especially in the zip codes 92506, 92508 and even more specifically in the neighborhoods shown (ie canyon crest, mission grove, orangcrest, hillcrest, overlook, hawarden hills, allasandro heights etc.). Your claims of lack of safety and high unemployment are not only untrue and unwarranted but are also outrageous.

Smog and traffic are a fact of life for all in southern California and yes Riverside is not immune. However your narrow minded views and rude disposition would be no better than a generalization that I could make about the town in rural, uneducated, gun-toting Oklahoma that you currently call home. While I know this generalization is not true, it is about as accurate as the unwarranted and outlandish claims you have made.

What's Colony Heihgts? Is that the area between the Mission Inn and Mt. Roubidoux ?
I grew up in Canyon Crest and love (and miss) the town.
