We sometimes get 125 here in the Coachella Valley. Those are the days when the pool is 115!

Edison was approved for another rate hike today, and the ones going to take the biggest hit will be the regular baseline residential customers in the hot spots. The medical baseline and low income baselines will once again be subsidized by.... US. Fun, fun, fun.

We are in Imperial Irrigation District. So glad too because when I read the Desert Sun this morning, the Edison hike is one of the top stories.

Shade trees and sun blocking shades if you don't have trees. Updated windows and insulation and a swamp cooler.

I don't think even a swamp cooler works that well when temps get above 100 degrees. We had one in NM, it was fine until the days were above 95 and the nights didn't cool into the 60s. Then it just wasn't all that great, better than nothing, for sure, just not like central air.

ps to smilinpretty, maybe Needles is a place some people love, it is a delightful small desert town with a relatively low cost of living..

Maybe it wasn't big enough. The one on our place in Lucerne keeps the interior spaces very comfortable, even at 110 and slightly higher. According to a rule of thumb chart I found here: Evaporative cooler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, a properly sized evap cooler should be expected to deliver 70 degree air on a 105 degree outside temp day when the RH is 15%.

I still prefer A/C. The swamp cooler adds too much moisture to the inside environment.
