Need Advice About Living in Barstow (Apple Valley: rental, house, neighborhoods)

Hello,

My family and I will be relocating to Fort Irwin in a few months and I am hoping to gain some insight about the area prior to arriving. I am hoping to find a nice neighborhood for myself, my husband and our two small children to live while waiting 3-6 months for on post housing. Based on the rental websites that I have seen I am looking to rent a house for $1300 or more. Does anyone know anything about the neighborhoods with the jewel and college names?

Based on the threads I have read regarding Barstow, I am a little apprehensive due to the very negative opinions and experiences that people have shared and am hoping that this city has a good, relatively safe and clean area where people live...

I am looking forward to the move and am hoping for some help from those who aknow the area. Thanks in advance!!!

Barstow is GARBAGE. Buy a gun and hope for the best or move to Apple Valley and have your husband drive the extra 30 miles. The drive for him beats getting robbed, stabbed, shot, raped, or killed!

sb212, sorry I can't help you specifically, but remember that people with complaints and beefs usually post a LOT more than people who are happy in a town.
