Default Palm Springs Aerial Tram?

Who's been on it? What did you do at the top? Are the prices quoted round trip?

Was there in '07. Really a cool ride up and down. I do believe prices are round trip. Go on the web site and maybe call them to find out. Up top there are miles of trails with absolutely FANTASTIC views. There are two restaurants there; one a cheap(er) buffet, and a more expensive one. Avoid the buffet at all costs!! bad food, high prices (for a buffet), and the place looks like it was last remodeled in 1975. Not the highlight of my trip. Temperature at the top can be much cooler than at the bottom, so bring a jacket or something if you don't like chilly air.

It is well worth the time & expense. During winter Mt San Jacinto is covered in snow & you can see 100 miles away. I've taken the tram several times w/ family during summer when Palm Springs is pushing 110F but at least 40 degrees cooler on the summit. The tram blows people away with the excitement & incredible views

The web site says the restaurants are under new management, Aramark now, so I wonder if its better or worse than when you were there. They don't say when the change happened.

And is there anything else to do around there for a weekend that doesn't involve golf or casinos?

Visit the actual palm oases in the canyons around Palm Springs & a desert garden. There's a water park. Swimming pools everywhere. Palm Drive is fun & even has a vaudeville show where old movie stars\ singers\ dancers perform. Joshua Tree isn't far from Palm Springs & a real adventure if you have never been there.

My dad was the bar manager for 30 years, went up and down the Tram every day...He retired about 3 years ago, Aramark did take over, they hold the concession for the bar food and souvenirs, I believe. I am a little biased, but there is nothing quite as nice as having a drink and looking at the view..on a clear day you can see to Arizona...lots to do up there, in the summer you can hike out to Long Valley, they used to rent horses to ride there, not sure now..the website can fill you in. I know too in the summer lots of backpackers ride up and down...remember in the heat of the summer the top of the tram is at least 30 degrees cooler than the desert floor.

As far as other things to do...head out to Palm Desert to the Living Desert Reserve..there are also several museums...On Saturday and Sundays until its real HOT, there is a huge open air market at the College of the Desert..very nice..

Lots of restaurants, oh don't forget the casinos..Have fun!

Are you serious? You're comng out here??? But I thought you hated it here! You always complain about the place!!!

Well, okay, if you're serious ... there are Indian Canyons for hiking, Painted Hills/Ladder canyon for hiking, the Bump & Grind in Rancho Mirage for hiking, the ever beautiful and effervescently refreshing Salton Sea (for bird watching), the McCallum Theater (saw Ballroom With A Twist last night hosted by Mario Lopez- it was WONDERFUL!), the Tram (sorry, never been there - scared of heights/don't like cold), Palm Springs Follies - they're great! Palm Springs Air Museum, Thousand Palms Oasis, VillageFest every Thursday night in Palm Springs and COD Street Fair in Palm Desert every Sat. & Sun. from 7am - 2pm., Living Desert in Palm Desert, Knott's Soak City, Joshua Tree just a short drive away.

Of course, we have a gazillion spas and hotels for pampering and relaxation, nightclubs, restaurants, spas, you name it.

You can find pretty much anything you want to do here, if you have a spirit for adventure. You will have a good time - if you allow yourself to have a good time.

Enjoy!

Just because I would never choose to live in a 120 degree oven half the year doesn't mean I'm against visiting for a couple of days in April.

Well, it'll probably be in the 90's, but if you allow yourself to have fun, you'll have a great time out here.
