I agree with puchica, near Cal State is pretty good. The apartments out near Cal State are pretty nice.

San Bernardino is largely considered to be a third world country by the local folks. Move to Redlands...its a little more expensive--but worth it.

As to why you are moving here: Re-think that strategy. I think you are just nuts for doing so. I want to get out of here as soon as possible. Most of my friends feel the same way. ... by the way, I am not a youngster looking for a career...I am retired. However, I would NEVER introduce teenagers to this area of Southern California--you are looking for huge problems if you do. San Bernardino is filled with gangs. Your kids will be better of NOT moving to Southern California--I hate to say this stuff because I grew up here--and it was nice then.

As someone who just moved out of SB county to a farm in upstate NY, I have to tell ya that if you are trying to move away from gangs, SB is NOT where you want to go. There are few areas here and there that are ok in the COUNTY (redlands, rancho for example) but san bernardino city is pretty gang infested except for a few nicer areas near the college. I lived on the mountain as someone else suggested - very little gang presence up there (that I saw) except for visiting flatlanders.

I commuted down the mountain each day from Lake Arrowhead to either Fontana or Date street in SB and I would not recommend living in either place. :P

You got that right! The best place to be in the City of San Bernardino is on the road heading out of town.

GGS- I think from the answers posted that by now you should have a generally good idea about San Bernardino - It's just plain bad news over there, and staying away from there is great advice for both you and your kids!

The town has been in the toilet for many years. There is no future of any kind for anybody there. There is no there there.

That is really sad--but sooooo true. I think if the real estate developers would just bulldoze the entire area, the infrastructure in place could lead to some quality homes, and a really nice community. ...but realistically it will never happen. It is so bad that the Jewish Synagogue located in San Bernardino is leaving. It was the oldest synagoge West of New York City. Yet, even that historically important fact is not enough to keep it in San Bernardino, where there is so much crime, corruption, and ugliness.

I don't get it. Why is there not any pictures of San Bernardino ANYWHERE on the internet?? I don't get it. It's really that bad? I mean, there's pics and videos of Compton all the time.

Try google search of images for "san bernardino city" The city government clearly doesn't think enough of the city to put any on the web site.

Actually, the city of San Bernardino does serve a very useful purpose. Whenever you're feeling down, maybe even depressed, just take a quick drive through SB. When you're done, you'll feel so good about yourself because of all the people there that will make you feel superior. SB is truly a capital of underachievers. Glug-glug-glug!

Default Listen to these posts

I agree with these posts. I for one, was raised in the Lake Arrowhead area until around 1980, right up the mountain from SB. I visited both SB and the mountain several times since. I always had a vision of moving back. Then last year, I went for a visit, and I was mortified to see how bad it was in SB. Unless you want to see trash and gang graffiti everywhere, and scary people walking around, in a city that you can SEE the crime, do not move there. I was really upset at how it had changed. SB was never great, but it was really evident. I was scared to walk around there, to be honest. There may be those that have become accustomed to it, and do not think twice. But really, after living in other states, it was really bad. Trust these people. If you move your children there with the background that you stated, you really do not care about their future (unless you have to move there), because you are putting them right into the gangs there. And I have to agree about the whole Southern CA part. There are some nice areas, and it depends on how they are raised. But anything in So CA will have gangs around you unless you can afford Malibu or something. We ended up moving to No CA and it is much better.
